POSITION SUMMARY:
The Community Outreach & Communications Coordinator is responsible for increasing Lake City businesses’ presence in the Buy Local community so that they can thrive and be recognized as the foundation on which the Lake City neighborhood is built. It is expected we can accomplish this through improving Lake City and BLCT’s online presence, like our website and social media. The position is also a key member of an Adopt-a-Business pilot program to give Lake City businesses the much-needed support they have difficulty accessing since they are busy running their businesses. We anticipate most of the work of the Community Outreach & Communications Coordinator work will be with Lake City Market businesses and operations, but we also think a coordinated communication strategy with businesses along Lake City Way will be essential to the success of the neighborhood. This position reports to the BLCT Project Manager and will work closely with the Lake City Market Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Communications and Content Generation

  • Manages the enjoy lakecity.org site and related social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Increases content related to the Lake City community by generating content or by working with contributors for content
  • Designs and implements a social media plan
  • Creates frequent social media postings, frequency to be determined by the social media plan
  • Improves the functionality and user experience of the enjoylakecity.org site
  • Promotes a new community space called Lake City Bazar in partnership with the BLCT Project Manager and the Lake City Circle Coordinator

Adopt-a-Business Pilot

  • Creates and launches a pilot program with BLCT Project Manager that connects resident volunteers with local small businesses to:
  • Helps the business to participate in community events
  • Keeps the business informed of major issues in the neighborhood
  • Helps the business stay in contact with BLCT for needed support
  • Provides an ambassador to the business by supporting them through social media and word-of-mouth promotion
  • Creates a call to volunteers with special attention for the need for cultural competency
  • Engages with the business owners and the volunteers to outline how they can work together
  • Compiles a list of businesses that would like to participate and see if they have a customer that they think would be a good fit
  • Promotes the program
  • Measures and documents the success of the program

Community Outreach and Engagement

  • Develops and delivers effective marketing presentations, posts, and bi-weekly new sources of digital recruiting advertisements
  • Establishes and maintains long-term relationships with current community partners and new partners that serve the Lake City community
  • Proactively networks for new community contacts with the intention of building ongoing, long-term relationships
  • Professionally represents BLCT and provides backup as needed at job fairs, transition fairs and community events
  • Updates and maintains a database of organizations and contacts
  • Evaluates outreach efforts and makes recommendations for improvement
  • Assists in the development and distribution of outreach correspondence, brochures, and website to support increasing the number of people reached as requested
  • Invites, adds, and joins social media marketing groups to establish and maintain digital relationships for outreach
  • Maintains an organized and easily accessible filing system
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Be an active team member works closely with staff to communicate ideas, identify potential problems, provide feedback, and offer creative solutions
  • Supports BLCT and CHSW’s commitment to diversity and inclusion

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This job is performed in a professional office environment or remotely. The following list is representative of the work environment employees encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:

WORKING REMOTELY:
Working remotely is a benefit of Children’s Home Society of Washington’s flexible workplace, but remote work cannot be offered for all positions. Some positions require daily presence in the office. Remote work arrangements may be adjusted or rescinded based upon business needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to use a PC/laptop, requiring repetitive motion of fingers, hands and wrists
  • Required to occasionally move about in an office environment to access file cabinets, printers, etc., and remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift light materials and equipment (up to 20 lbs.)
  • May infrequently be needed to work flexible hours (outside of regular office hours) to accommodate the needs of the organization (i.e., attend events)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two or more years relatedly work experience, preferably in a communications or outreach role or nonprofit environment
