A Brief Overview

The Assistant Vice President of International Philanthropy is expanding their team. Join this extraordinary mission as an Assistant Development Officer! As the Assistant Development Officer (ADO) you will provide high-level support for international fundraising programs in Major Gifts. You will serve as a key liaison between members of the fundraising team, division staff, Foundation colleagues, as well as external stakeholders. The ADO will also work directly with donors and families who wish to contribute to the mission of the division.


This position will require strong understanding of international philanthropic landscape. However, this is a traditional ADO role where you will provide assistance with donor portfolio management, data-entry in donor CRM and some administrative duties. You will need to have an innovative and think ‘outside-the-box’ approach. You will have strong research skills to understand cultural nuances to draft communications to international donors with proper salutations. You will be engaged in prospecting and gift agreements. This is a highly engaged front-line facing role.

Reporting Structure:
Assistant Vice President of International Philanthropy

Schedule: Hybrid with a few onsite days. There may be a possibility for remote depending upon certain factors.


What you will do

  • Provide major gift support to members of the fundraising team in their efforts to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward 6 figure plus individual donors.

  • Assist in the creation of proposals and stewardship reports/activities in partnership with donor relations.

  • Prepare briefing materials for development colleagues, clinical and institutional leadership and support donor meeting follow up.

  • Work collaboratively with Prospect Management to support efforts to identify and engage new prospective donors.

  • Help manage donor qualification and referral processes.

  • Partner with the Directors of Development and clinical teams across the hospital to understand the goals and learn about the programs, research, clinical care and family support initiatives.

  • Contribute to strong working relationships in Individual Giving and across the entire Foundation by interface with the community fundraising, corporate and foundation relations, and additional teams to help ensure engagement of fundraising foundations and related groups.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years related job experience Required

  • At least three (3) years development experience in a hospital or healthcare organization Preferred

  • Some proficiency in Spanish or Arabic language preferred

  • Understanding of cross-cultural international environment preferred

  • Experience working in global setting preferred

  • Proven ability in navigating a complex, fast-paced environment via collaboration and clear communication with key stakeholders.

  • Must possess initiative, leadership, creative energy, well-refined organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills.

  • Superior attention to detail in an environment where accuracy and timely completion of tasks is critical to maintaining faculty and donor satisfaction.

  • Highest sensitivity and judgement with regard to the needs of families of seriously ill children.

  • Intellectual depth, maturity, judgement and professionalism to earn the trust and confidence of hospital partners and external stakeholders as well as the ability to build strong collaborative relationships across a complex organization.

  • Ability to persuasively promote the Hospital's mission in patient care, program development, education, and research.

  • Effectively communicate complex medical information to both lay and professional audiences.

  • Ability to work as an integral part of a fundraising team.

  • Microsoft Office and database experience required.

  • A sincere appreciation for people and how they are each uniquely motivated.

  • Poised and engaging, empathetic communications style based on natural warmth and enthusiasm.

  • Fast-paced and results oriented with the ability to work in a timely manner with multiple deadlines and competing requirements.

  • Strong written, presentation, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to relate well to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Demonstration of good judgement, professionalism and the highest standards of ethical conduct.
