Job Summary:

This position provides services in a clinical setting on an Native American/American Indian Reservation in Mescalero, New Mexico. A minimum one (1) year commitment is preferred. Options for additional consecutive one (1) year commitments do typically exist, but are based on client needs. The primary responsibilities of a Travel Nurse Practitioner include examining patients to determine their cause of illness or concern, making patients feel safe and comfortable, and working collaboratively with other staff members to ensure the daily operations of a clinic run smoothly.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Contractor will participate directly in the medical care of the patients, performing functions to the extent delineated by the medical staff privilege process.
  • Contractor will adhere to the scope of work and accept work assignments from the Clinical Director as necessary.
  • Contractor will provide direct care/services to pediatric, geriatric, adolescent and adult patients via face-to-face or tele-health encounters. Such services may focus on specific age populations such as child and adolescent health and life span issues such as reproductive and women’s health and acuity of care such as urgent care and emergent care as well as positive COVID 19 patients.
  • Contractor will provide comprehensive therapeutic and preventative health services to individual patients, family members and patient groups in an outpatient setting as a primary health resource and physician extender. Service to include guidance in nutrition, common illnesses, accidents, child growth, and development and child rearing. Services also include Emergency medical treatment.
  • Contractor will assess and diagnose needs to produce a plan of action to meet identified needs by providing medical health services to individuals and families, and interpretations of x-ray imaging results and laboratory test results and findings.
  • Contractor shall provide care to address COVID 19 pandemic. Care to include community curbside testing and community vaccination clinics to include on site and off site treatment.
  • Contractor will apply Nurse Practitioner skills in all phases of health care services.
  • Contractor will make decisions concerning medical care needs of patients with physicians and designated consultants
  • Contractor will provide lifesaving and support measures in emergency situations.
  • Contractor will work with appropriate staff, outer agencies and accepting facilities to medically stabilize and coordinate appropriate urgent and emergent transfers to acute inpatient hospital facilities.
  • Contract shall provide thorough and concise written documentation of evaluations, treatment, active orders, medications and referrals through the Electronic Health Record in a timely manner in accordance with the MSU HIM Internal Control policy. Record keeping, release of information and patient confidentiality are in compliance with HIPAA Guidelines.
  • Contractor shall have knowledge of appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) use and disposal procedures for infectious control purposes. * Contractor shall participate in Quality Assurance/Risk Management activities of the hospital and peer review functions. * Contractor will adhere to guidelines as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws.

  • Ability to collaborate with the healthcare team to use evidence-based practice in providing care and adhere to medications or therapies with complex protocols.
  • Compliance with IHS Service Units and/or Health Centers published Policies; Procedures; Standards of Care; and hospital and Laboratory Protocols.
  • No reports of breached patient safety, infection control, and other procedures that might adversely affect patient outcome.
  • Maintaining credentialing uninterrupted as required by each facility.
  • Ensure all required documentation meets established IHS Medical Facility, Joint Commission, and CMS standards to include, but are not limited to, timeliness, legibility, accuracy, content, date, time, and signature.
  • Expertise in handling sophisticated medical equipment.
  • Flexibility to meet the facility’s scheduling needs.

Schedule:

  • Services are required at 40 hours per week for varied shifts (with an hour NON-PAID lunch break). Scheduled shifts MAY INCLUDE weekends and holidays. Hours of Operation are:
  • Saturday and Sunday afternoons 1230 – 1700 (4.5 hours)
  • Mondays 0800-1900
  • Tuesdays 0800-1900
  • Wednesdays 0800-1900
  • Thursday 0800-1900
  • Friday 0800-1900
  • HOLIDAY 1230 - 1700
  • Contractor's Employee work hours may vary as requested by the Clinical Director or designee, and/or depending on the need of the Mescalero Service Unit. Travel to/from the facility site is not included in the scheduled hours and the contractor's employee cannot invoice that as part of the scheduled shift.

Education and Experience:

  • Required: All nurses shall possess a current, valid, full practice Nurse Practitioner license within the Continental United States throughout the term of this contract.
  • Required: Must have at least 12-months of clinical experience and expertise in the NP area of specialization in the last five (5) years.
  • Required: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Required: Completed a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) a graduate level nursing program designed for the education and preparation of nurse practitioners as providers of primary, or acute, or chronic, or long-term, or end of life health care. This education must have been accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP)

National Certification Corporation (NCC) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

  • Preferred: Pediatric, and/or Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certifications.

Physical Requirements:

  • May be exposed to infectious diseases and occupational dangers like accidental needle pricks, radiation, and electric shocks.
  • Must be able to withstand physical and emotional stress.
  • Requires long hours of standing and moving.
  • Nurse Practitioners shall have the physical ability to perform assigned tasks, are able to lift fifty (50) pounds and are able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.

Pre-employment Requirements

This position may be contingent upon passing a security clearance, background check, drug screen, Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review, or credit check after acceptance of an offer and prior to beginning work, due to the nature of the services Chloeta provides.

Drug and Alcohol Testing

To enforce Chloeta’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, an employee or candidate could be subject to undergoing a drug screen and/or alcohol testing during or at the beginning of employment.

Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)

Under the FCRA, Chloeta may request a credit check during the onboarding process. A written authorization form will be required before obtaining credit records.

Emergency Response

Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
