What are the responsibilities and job description for the Host / Hostess position at Chompie's?

Position Summary: This position is responsible to be the representative of the restaurant in the manner of greeting our guests with the highest level of friendliness and professionalism and making sure each request is attended to in a timely manner.


Reporting Relationships: This position will report directly to the Manager on Duty, Supervisor and the General Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to maintain the highest quality of guest service and to adhere to our high standards of health and safety regulations, including acquiring and maintaining a current Maricopa County Food Service Worker Certification.
  • Must greet all of our guests courteously immediately upon their entrance to the restaurant, direct them to an specific location, acknowledging their requests, and seating them in the best possible location available, while fairly and diplomatically rotating servers.
  • Must have knowledge of the floor plan.
  • Must have the ability to properly view and map out all large parties effectively without sacrificing the flow of the business with the knowledge of which tables may be “capped” for large parties and which are wheelchair accessible.
  • Must answer the phones before the end of the third ring, direct the call, and make sure the calls have been answered.
  • Must be able to interact within the team and exhibit mutual respect with every staff member in order to maintain an environment that supports our high standards of service.
  • Must initiate and maintain working knowledge of prices and descriptions of menu items.
  • Must be able to report to work in proper uniform maintaining a neat and kept appearance as to convey a professional image to the guest.
  • Must be able to report to work on time according to scheduled shift, and to maintain regular and predictive attendance
  • Must be able to safely operate all equipment necessary to perform duties


General Responsibilities:

  • Must exhibit ability to remain calm and positive in the face of stress, in order to maintain an exemplary experience for all guests.
  • Must be able to contribute to the overall friendly ambiance of each location.
  • Must ensure the front lobby area is clean and safe at all times, this includes, but is not limited to: entrance doors and windows, front desk, lobby floors and exterior sidewalks.
  • Must be able to accurately give our guests a time quote when the restaurant is full and on a wait.
  • Must learn and adhere to our reservation policy, carefully gathering information.
  • Must adhere to the policy of “keeping it full” especially on a wait.
  • Must be able to do all side work as determined by management.
  • Must be able to communicate guest complaints to Manager.
  • Must update and/or remedy any and all signage viewed by our guests.


Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to hear with 100% accuracy with correction.
  • Must be able to see 20/20 vision with correction.
  • Must have the ability to stand and walk the entire shift.
  • Must have the ability to continuously reach, bend, lift, stoop and wipe throughout the entire shift.
  • Must have the ability to effectively communicate verbally with associates, and guests.
  • Must have the ability to read, count and write accurately
  • Must have the ability to freely access all areas of the restaurant including the back of the house.
  • Must have the ability to move or handle furniture, including highchairs, etc, generally weighing 0-50lbs.
  • Hazards include, but not limited to cuts, slipping, tripping, falls and burns.
