What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cardiovascular Genetic Counselor position at Christiana Care Health Systems?
The Center for Medical Genomics at ChristianaCare is currently searching for a Cardiovascular Genetic Counselor to support the Heart and Vascular Center.
Cardiovascular genetics is a rapidly evolving subspecialty, and its growth is attributed to advances in genome sequencing and genetic testing. With the increase in the understanding of the genetic basis of multiple cardiac conditions, including arrhythmias (channelopathies), heart failure (cardiomyopathies), lipid disorders, cardiac complications of neuromuscular conditions, and vascular disease, including aortopathies there have been advances in clinical diagnostic methods, as well as in therapies to ameliorate symptoms, slow progression of disease, and mitigate the risk of adverse outcomes
The Genetic Counselor will be responsible for conducting intake screening and risk assessment, explaining the nature and scope of testing procedures, and following up with results. In addition, the counselor will have opportunities to teach and supervise residents, fellows, undergraduate students and graduate genetic counseling students. The counselor will also provide educational lectures to professionals as well as participate in community outreach. Educational enrichment is integral to the position with participation in journal clubs, and case conference
The Center for Medical Genomics currently has 8 genetic counselors that provide genetic counseling across multiple service lines, including oncology, prenatal, NICU, cardiovascular, neurology and adult services.

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Human Genetics/ Genetic Counseling.
- ABGC or ACMG Board certification is required at hire or the individual must be ABGC board eligible and have active candidate status.
- Must obtain a Delaware Genetic Counselor license. Board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling is required for continued employment as this is a necessary requirement for licensure.
- One year experience desired, but not required.
