A high-volume precision machine shop is seeking a Quality Engineer to join its team in Walker, MI. In this role you will be responsible for ensuring proper engineering techniques to allow the manufacturing processes to produce a quality product.
Job Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Set detailed guidelines on what needs to be checked and what the quality standards are
• Recommend measures to optimize operations while maintaining quality
• Update Quality Management System (QMS) with incidents, fixes and improvements
• Audit systems based on IATF16949 requirements
• Monitor the entire production cycle and perform regular tests to identify potential malfunctions as early as possible; identify the root of technical issues and recommend fixes
• Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to adhere to process and prevent occurrence of any non-conformity relating to product, process or system
• Review current blueprints, GD&T, and quality documentation
• Support in the development, deployment and adherence of product and process auditing
• Ensure all control plans and associated documentation are implemented effectively and maintained
• Drive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to resolve quality issues that arise as quickly and efficiently as possible to prevent compromising quality and safety standards
• Provide technical advice in specialized quality assurance technology such as statistical techniques (e.g. Statistical Process Control [SPC], etc.), quality codes, and regulations.
• Participate in the investigation of technical problems, as well as the establishment of procedures and CAPA (Corrective And Preventative Actions) to avoid recurrences.
• Additional duties may be assigned, as required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field preferred (relevant work experience will be considered in lieu of education); ASQ certification a plus
• 3 years of quality engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
• Recent experience working with data-driven analytical methodologies for industrial quality applications – especially Statistical Process Control [SPC], Six Sigma, Process Capability (Cp, CpK), and/or Process Performance (Pp, PpK) Analysis
• Experience working with Process Improvement and/or Continuous Improvement practices (e.g. Kaizen, DMAIC, Gemba/Genba, Root-Cause Analysis [RCA]; etc.)
• High level critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information in a clear, concise, manner while building relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
• An inherent sense of urgency to drive great results while being precise in executing work
• Ability to create and communicate a clear project plan, tracking progress, and keeping stakeholders informed
• Ability to think outside the box to come up with innovative solutions to new challenges
• Ability to influence without authority and drive enthusiasm
