What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cigna Ventures Managing Director position at Cigna?
Cigna Ventures is seeking to hire a Managing Director to join our strategic investment team. The Managing Director will be responsible for identifying, analyzing and executing strategic investment opportunities for the enterprise. This leader will provide strategic thought leadership around development of new areas for growth, innovative products, partnerships and business opportunities that support our consumer centric operating model. This role will work with senior leadership to determine key strategic business priorities that create a distinct competitive advantage for Cigna in the marketplace. Additionally, the Managing Director will interact extensively with internal business leaders and subject matter experts across Cigna and Evernorth in order to validate strategic alignment and facilitate post-investment execution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Conducts strategic analyses, prepares business cases, and performs business intelligence research. Drives strategic focus to new growth opportunities and scalable programs that increase operating efficiency.
Leads generation and active prospecting for potential new investment opportunities that meet our target profile and are turned into potential new business opportunities. Prepares investment recommendations for the Cigna Ventures Board of Managers.
Provides governance and strategic oversight of strategic initiatives and be accountable for all deliverables produced by the team.
Partners with the various Cigna business unit leaders to ensure business unit strategies are tightly aligned with Cigna and Evernorth priorities.
Leads all aspects of the deal process from sourcing opportunities, completing rigorous due diligence, building financial models, negotiating deal terms, to engaging portfolio companies post-close.
Conducts primary and secondary research, develop investment themes and market maps, prepare investment memorandums.
Works closely with portfolio company management and actively participate on boards.
Actively engages internal business leaders and subject matter experts to share insights and/or support strategic growth opportunities with portfolio companies.
Develops and maintains brand and network across healthcare and VC ecosystem as a source of deal flow, co-investors, market insights.
Contribute to various fund operations and team initiatives such as CRM updates, financial reporting, and continued talent development
Supports various Cigna enterprise strategy, innovation, corporate development, and partnership initiatives.
Represents Cigna Ventures at relevant start-up, investor, and/or sector-specific conferences and events.
Provides functional and industry expertise to support analysis and review of business development opportunities.
Develops and maintains a stable of entrepreneur relationships for the purpose of identifying potential business partnerships and investments.
Cultivates deep relationships with senior Venture Capital partners and other key partners in the VC ecosystem.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s level degree highly preferred.
Venture capital, private equity investment or investment banking background is a plus.
10 years of relevant healthcare consulting or senior leader experience.
Both management consulting and business development experience, as well as a proven track record at prior companies to be competitive and successful in the healthcare market.
Well-honed consulting skills enabling the individual to work with others to elicit information, to think objectively and analytically and to influence outcomes positively.
Fact-based problem solver with the ability to evaluate alternative courses of action and make sound management decisions.
Experience with cross-functional initiatives, with a high degree of complexity.
Ability to present and develop presentations.
Demonstrates ability to lead, influence and problem-solve across various Cigna businesses.
Strong modeling capability and financial management skills.
Strong project management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strategic acumen.
Able to manage multiple priorities and deal with ambiguity.
Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative group.
For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of $196,700 - $327,900, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
