Broadcast Assistant (PT) – Radio Reading Service

 

About the Position…

 

Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CABVI) is currently seeking an experienced, capable, and highly motivated Broadcast Assistant (PT) – Radio Reading Service to join our team!  This is a part-time assistant to the Broadcast Supervisor responsible for the Radio Reading Services on weekends, Holidays, and as needed on weekdays.

 

The principal responsibilities for this position include:

 

  • Supervises broadcast and production operations for the Radio Reading Services on weekends, holidays, weekdays as needed and other times as needed to cover absences of the Broadcast Supervisor to ensure effective broadcast service provision.

 

    • This is a part-time, variable schedule, averaging 25 hours per week as needed.

 

  • Produces, engineers and edits programs for airplay and online ensuring professional sound quality.

 

    • Programs may include PSAs, Promos, reading of print material and reading of agency documents.
    • Must be able to accurately place audio content in broadcast playlists and podcast hosting site.

 

  • Assists with supervision, training and evaluation of broadcast volunteers and interns. 

 

    • Effectively provides accurate explanation of reader and board operation techniques and procedures to volunteers.

 

  • Ensures proper use and maintenance of station equipment.

 

  • Performs other tasks and duties to assist Broadcast Supervisor as assigned. 

Qualifications


Applicants interested in being considered for this position should meet the following requirements:

 

  • Associate degree in related field preferred.
  • Ability to provide primary broadcast coverage during weekends, holidays and weekdays as needed.
  • Knowledge and experience operating a soundboard, recording software, and other studio broadcasting equipment.

 

    • Experience with Adobe Audition preferred.
    • Experience with Podcasting hosting sites preferred.
    • Experience with Amazon Echo skill building preferred.

 

  • Knowledge of basic usage of computers, iPads, smart phones, and Amazon Echos as well as proficiency with basic computer functions, including word processing, spreadsheet programs, email programs and navigating Windows 10.

 

  • Knowledge of online storage facilities such as Google Drive and Dropbox as well as file up/downloading services such as wetransfer and Mail Drop.

 

  • Ability to troubleshoot basic computer, tablet, or smart phone concerns.

 

  • Knowledge of online library services such as Flipster and Libby.

 

  • Strong knowledge of radio broadcast principles, techniques, and best practices.

 

  • Experience in radio production and volunteer supervision or other supervisory experience is preferred. 

 

  • Excellent oral communication and strong interpersonal skills for interacting with volunteer readers, guests, and others in the community.

 

  • Ability to work independently, be flexible, and juggle multiple projects simultaneously.

 

  • Positive attitude and sense of humor.

 

 

About Radio Reading Service

 

With a special radio receiver, listeners hear daily broadcasts of local newspapers and magazines. The broadcast is carried on a side band of a Cincinnati public radio station and can be heard within a 50-mile radius of downtown Cincinnati. Broadcasts are also carried on cable TV and on closed circuit TV systems in hospitals and senior facilities. CABVI broadcasts on-the-air on our radio station 24 hours a day including more than 7 hours of daily news from local newspapers and periodicals. Popular programs are the frontpage news, grocery store ads, obituaries, and editorials. Other programs include national newspapers such as the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, interviews with authors, and regular feature shows such as sports, travel talk, health news and recipes.
