What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Visual Designer position at Circle?
What you’ll be responsible for
Circle is looking for a Principal Visual Designer to elevate the overall quality and detail of our experiences, craft consistency across them, and provide the organizational guidance and training that allows others to do the same by leveraging the foundation you provide. Acquiring a deep understanding of our customers and their needs, you’ll own the visual language and interaction patterns for Circle’s product suite, launching standalone experiences, and other projects that directly contribute to customer and business success. Partnering with Product Management, Engineering, and your fellow designers, you’ll ensure that our customers have an exceptional experience each time they engage with us.
What you’ll work on
- Craft, facilitate, and educate the usage of the foundational design primitives our products are built on
- Develop, refine, and codify the visual language of our design experiences, iterating regularly
- Utilize prototypes and motion design to communicate your ideas
- Ensure visual consistency across customer touch points
- Support the success of our product development initiatives by holding teams accountable to the high standards of your visual language
- Collaborate across product, engineering, brand marketing, and product design teams to drive alignment for your processes and prioritization of your needs
- Contribute to a growing design team, helping install best practices and process as we scale our products
What you’ll bring to Circle
Lead Visual Designer
- More than 7 years of visual and/or UI design experience, working with teams to set direction of look and feel
- An enjoyment of iterating work to ensure your end users have successful and enjoyable experiences
- Ability to communicate complex concepts through your visuals
- Understanding of how to design cross-channel experiences, notably desktop to mobile
- A “less is more” design philosophy
- Demonstrated understanding of the benefits of teams utilizing design systems in their day-to-day work
- Experience designing for both complex consumer and B2B/SASS-style digital products
- Designing for crypto and/or fintech experiences not required but considered a plus
Principal Visual Designer
- All requirements of a Lead Visual Designer plus:
- More than 12 years of visual and/or UI design experience, directly setting direction of look and feel, and owning end results
- Demonstration of how your design decisions have impacted process and business results
- Ability to “connect-the-dots” through the work being done in other product areas to solve synonymous problems
- Regular contribution to overall design team processes and utilization of systems thinking for presentation-layer components and primitives

Starting pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to: relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note that compensation ranges may differ for candidates in other locations.
Lead Visual Designer
Base Pay Range: $157,500 - $207,500
Annual Bonus Target: 15%
Principal Visual Designer
Base Pay Range: $187,500 - $240,000
Annual Bonus Target: 17.5%
Also Included: Equity & Benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)). Circle has a discretionary vacation policy. We also provide 10 days of paid sick leave per year and 11 paid holidays per year in the U.S.
Salary : $157,500 - $207,500
