Surgical Technician - Santa Fe, NM
The Position
Work is performed Monday through Friday, 8-10 hours as schedule demands. Daytime hours, no nights, weekends, or holidays. Provides technical support to the physician during percutaneous peripheral vascular procedures. The Surgical Technician is expected to perform scrub and hemodynamic monitoring duties with vascular catheterizations using clinical knowledge, technical skills, and professional judgment in accordance with professional and departmental standards and protocols. Will provide care assessment prior, during and post-procedural instruction to patients. Procedures are performed 2-3 days a week in Santa Fe. If fulltime work is available with clinic work at our Albuquerque location.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists Physician with performing diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Scrubs and assists Physician as requested. Position patients as needed for imaging or procedures.
- Respond to patients distress situations using appropriate communication and procedures.
- Review and evaluate developed x-rays or ultrasound images for diagnostic purposes.
- Maintains operational knowledge of Cath Lab and Imaging equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications. Assist with quality control of equipment.
- Assist with inventory and ordering of facility supplies.
- Prepares sterile trays, instruments, supplies and equipment necessary for procedures, and maintains sterile field.
- Possesses the knowledge & skills level of basic and complex percutaneous procedures, including peripheral interventions.
- Responsible for patient safety and must be able to recognize cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols, operate external cardiac pacemaker and defibrillator. Intervenes with appropriate therapy in the event of cardiac emergencies.
- Maintains, troubleshoots and operates fluoroscopy equipment to ensure operability and safety. Calibrates equipment and performs routine preventive maintenance procedures.
- Monitors and records patients' hemodynamic status during procedures.
- Properly handles and processes PACS images to include storage and transfer. Follows radiation safety policies.
- Performs housekeeping and patient transport duties as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), or registry eligible; Surgical Technologist, Registered Radiologic Technologist RT(R) or Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) or Interventional Surgical Technologist.
1-year Cath Lab and/or interventional radiology experience (required).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Requires high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care activities.
- Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs
- Able to stand for long periods, occasional overhead lifting and low reaching.
- Able to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. regularly. Patient care activities require the ability to exert force of up to 30 lbs. regularly, up to 40 lbs. occasionally and up to 100 lbs. rarely.
