POSITION: Americas Privacy Officer
JOB DESCRIPTION:
We have an opportunity for an experienced privacy professional to join the Chief Privacy Office (CPO) within the Cisco Security & Trust Organization reporting to the Vice President & Chief Privacy Officer.
In this role, you will provide counseling and strategic advice towards compliance with Cisco privacy-focused policies and standards and customer requirements. You will also be primarily responsible for driving thought leadership, influencing regulations, and guiding standards development in the Americas region – in partnership with S&TO, Government Affairs, and Legal. You will work with a multifaceted, cross-functional team on privacy issues impacting Cisco’s products, services, and businesses operations around the world. You will be part of an experienced team of privacy professionals, attorneys, business and operations leads, and engineers to craft innovative privacy solutions.
Responsibilities: Provide privacy advice on domestic and international requirements and market expectations concerning privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity – with a focus on the Americas region Serve as the leader responsible and accountable for anticipating and managing privacy issues in the Americas region. Advise on privacy by design, build innovative solutions to address privacy risks, conduct privacy impact assessments, and devise effective and efficient remediation strategies in line with corporate risk tolerance Support data protection and privacy compliance monitoring and enforcement activities Research, track, and help turn regulations and enforcement trends into practical, actionable advice Work with Government Affairs to influence privacy legislation, standards, and frameworks Resolve escalated deal negotiations and customer inquiries related to privacy issues in the Americas Chair the Americas Privacy Council made up of local, in-country representatives for the key countries where Cisco does business in the Americas region. Develop/update internal policies, templates, and playbooks
Qualifications: Outstanding academic credentials 5 years of proven experience and expertise in privacy, security, and/or data governance requirements and practice, with emphasis in the Americas region Law degree (J.D., LLM) Privacy (CIPP) and/or security certifications (CISM, CISA, CISSP) a plus Sound business judgment, flexibility, and appreciation for risk tolerance and balancing business interests, priorities, and timelines Demonstrated ability to identify, prioritize, and resolve privacy issues pragmatically, effectively, and efficiently Comfortable with gray areas where no clear answer has been established and ability to explain and defend the position taken Appreciation for new and emerging technology, ability to become quickly conversant with Cisco’s broad offering portfolio Humility and a willingness to learn!
