What are the responsibilities and job description for the Software Engineer position at Cisco?
Become part of Cisco's fast-growing and exciting Software Security team. We are actively building a next-generation security service crafted to forensically analyze software to find vulnerabilities and threats.
Whom you'll work with
You will be a part of a dynamic and growing team responsible for securing Cisco's global software supply chain. Our diverse software engineers are responsible for creating Cisco's software bill of materials (SBOMs) in response to the US executive order on Cyber Security. You will be working with the Build Artifact Security team and the different engineering teams within Cisco to complete the SBOM risk assessment. The engineering teams ensure highly accurate and traceable SBOMs for Cisco's entire software product portfolio.
Who you are
As a Software Engineer of the Build Artifact Security, you'll develop technologies that change how clients secure their software and interact with security tools and results. You will anticipate our customer needs and be empowered to act and innovate. Be eager to seek new solutions to problems as we continue to push our mission to ensure highly accurate and traceable SBOMs for Cisco's entire software product portfolio.
What you'll need
As a Software Engineer, you will need to have a firm understanding of Software Architecture and development concepts with the ability to tackle challenges by taking the initiative and assuming ownership of development tasks and activities. You will work with the Build Artifact Security and Cisco engineering teams to complete the SBOM risk assessment. The engineering teams ensure highly accurate and traceable SBOMs for Cisco's entire software product portfolio. We are looking for candidates with:
- MS (preferred) or BS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
- 5 yrs. of experience in the security software engineering field.
- Ability to help engineering teams understand and comply with SBOM Policy.
- Strong drive to deliver results, good teamwork, and time management skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interpret technical data and present it understandably.
- Proficient with Python or any modern web development language.
- Possess a deep understanding of Web APIs and micro-service patterns and have experience building and consuming RESTful web services.
- Linux (3 years).
Our team fosters open and transparent communication and provides an environment where others are accepted to contribute to the work product with their voice, their ideas, and their actions. We encourage the sharing of ideas and solutions to ensure avenues exist where the employee is fully engaged and maintains a sense of meaningful work contributions to our mission. We ask that you:
- Be mindful of others and respect their ideas and opinions.
- Take ownership of your work, focusing on delivery.
- Be present for discussions, share information, and encourage positive communications with your peers and clients.
- Are open to change and exhibit flexibility to ensure the timely delivery of our products and services.
#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.
We embrace digital and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we're "old" (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we're also a software company. And a security company. We invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns, and protects. No other company can do what we do - you can't put us in a box!
But "Digital Transformation" is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)
Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and make a difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.
So, you have colorful hair? Don't care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That's cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world-changing? Be you with us
