A successful business banker will bring commercial business into the bank through business development contacts with a customer/prospect.  A business banker must match the product and service with the customer/prospect's identified needs and must carefully evaluate the amount of risk involved in entering into a relationship. A business banker must understand the business/industry the customer is in and must gain a thorough knowledge of the customer/enterprise history and future plans.

The business banker trainee will be placed in a training and development program to enhance or develop the competencies needed to become a successful business banker.  The time spent in the program will be determined based on previous experience of the trainee and time needed to develop business banker competencies. 

PRIMARY DEVELOPMENT AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRAINEE:

  1. Follows and successfully masters the curriculum established for the Business Banker Trainee program.  The curriculum may include, and is not limited to:
    1. Time spent in the Loan Administration area of the bank obtaining the fundamentals of credit analysis and loan administration needed to be successful as a business banker.
    2. Time spent with the business banking team, including the business banking associates and other business bankers already in the role, obtaining the competencies needed to become a successful business banker.
    3. Time spent with business banking, retail banking, mortgage, investments, marketing, and other partners to learn about the products and services offered by CIB.
  2. Develops positive working relationships with commercial, loan administration, operations, retail and investment areas in order to build strong internal team relationships.
  3. Participates in various community and business organizations and events.
  4. Strengthens and develops ability to solicit new loan business from new and existing customers and referral sources.
  5. Participates in customer calling, customer visits, and loan closings.
  6. Actively participates in business banking department meetings and other department meetings as applicable during training.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Required to have complete knowledge of bank and computer systems to perform the role of a successful business banker.
  2. Maintain a high profile in the community through active participation in community organizations to enhance the image of the bank and develop business banking opportunities.
  3. Make group sales presentations as assigned and assist in staffing bank display at various trade shows.
  4. Perform other duties as requested by the Senior Vice President-Business Banking.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

In order to be selected as a candidate for the Business Banker Trainee program, the candidate must possess one or more of the following qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a credit analyst, business analyst, or other related position
  • Previous experience as a business banking portfolio manager
  • Previous experience with consumer, mortgage, or commercial lending
  • Previous experience in business banking such as a business banking associate or other high-level support to business bankers

In addition, the following qualifications are needed to be successful as a Business Banker Trainee:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong sales development skills
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Willingness to become involved with and participate in community events
  • Ability to work well with business partners within the organization
  • Proven ability to develop new business
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills
  • Position requires ability to have or obtain a NMLS License
