What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgery Scheduler CVSA - (FT) position at Citizens Medical Center?
JOB SUMMARY
The Surgery Scheduler schedules surgery and diagnostic tests as ordered by the physician upon check-out. Notification by faxing all necessary information to the correct departments, i.e. Day Surgery, Cath Lab. Updates clinic patient demographic as presented / required. Nursing duties as needed to keep patients flowing smoothly within the clinic setting.
Job Specific:
1.Surgery / Procedure Scheduling (EF)

Ensure insurance information is obtained and updated
- Verify insurance info with patient
- Policyholder, policy number, group number

Schedule procedures, tests and stand-by physicians when necessary

Call central scheduling or entity to perform tests
- Notify patient of time and date
- Place same information into provider schedule in EMD

Place orders for procedures in systems as applicable
- Fax written orders to correct department
- Fax history and physical to hospital/facility

Obtain signed authorizations and consent forms at time of check out
- Verify pre-auth or per-cert needed per insurance company regulations
- Complete notes in EMD to results of verification
- Educate patient on surgery preparation and risks as directed by clinical staff.

Call central scheduling or entity to perform tests
2.Telephone Triage (EF)
- Bring to physician’s attention critical lab value
- Bring to physician’s attention urgent/emergent patient calls
3.Complete orders for labs as required (EF)
4. Review charts to ensure appropriate results/requests are obtained for post op visits. (EF)
5. Assist with all other clerical staff duties in clinic as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Required: High School education or GED
EXPERIENCE
Required: None
Preferred: At least one year experience in a physician's office or a clinic setting preferred. Experienced in Cardiac patient care preferred.
Special Skills and Abilities:
Required: Assist LVN / RN with patient care and scheduling testing as requested by MD, i.e., labs, outpatient hospital testing and procedures The Surgery Scheduler/ MA works closely with physicians and patients and must exhibit effective communication skills as well as caring professionalism when dealing with patients and their families. The Surgery Scheduler/ MA must also communicate and work well with other physicians, departmental personnel, and health care professionals
Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant
