Citrus County Technical Services Division employs engineering processes and effective management to maintain a County road system that ensures both adequacy and safety for public transportation.
The Survey Technician II calculates accurate survey data and operates survey equipment to measure land boundaries and elevations. This position works according to set procedures and under direct supervision of the crew chief. The primary work schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Thursday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
- Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
- Uses various survey instruments to compile accurate survey data including, but not limited to, electronic total stations and prism set-ups. Establishes traverses, and stakes property boundaries, elevation benchmarks and operates auto-levels.
- Records accurate data in data collector machine and occasionally in field book.
- Reads and interprets drawings, maps, and other references occasionally.
- Clears survey sites using machetes and other equipment to open survey lines in wooded and field areas creating paths for measuring and sighting.
- Operates safety vehicles and equipment. Inspects, cleans, and maintains tools and equipment daily.
- Interacts occasionally with public and answers questions and addresses concerns.
- Participates in departmental activities and performs other duties as necessary.
- Performs daily truck inventory and equipment and charges batteries.
- Uploads and downloads data collector in office. Performs office duties including, but not limited to, filing, making copies, filling out daily job log forms, as needed.

Education, Training, and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent, or specialized vocational training.
- One (1) year relevant experience and previous surveying experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills
- Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida).
- Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar.
- Must have prior knowledge or ability to learn basics of all aspects of land surveying in a reasonable timeframe.
- Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
- Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses:
- IS-100.c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and
- IS-700.b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
- The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 20 pounds.
- The job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, balancing, and twisting, and occasional crawling, climbing, and reaching above shoulders.
- The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping, fine manual manipulation, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment, pushing, pulling, and typing.
- The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception, hearing, and speaking.
- The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes and gases, unprotected heights, and extreme noise.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities
All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency. During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens. Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
