What are the responsibilities and job description for the After School Instructor position at City Gate?
City Gate provides, hands-on Out-of-School Time (OST) programs that focus on reading, writing, and homework support for elementary students in grades 3 - 5.
The program is currently developing a STEAM (Science, Technology, Art, Engineering and Math) focus through a club model, including Coding Club, and Chess. Additionally, the program provides opportunities for physical activities, SEL experiences and direct instruction and tutoring.
The After School Instructor will support Lead Teacher in engaging up to 25 youth to plan and implement student-driven, project-based activities that will incorporate relevant academic content and build 21st Century Skills, such as teamwork, collaboration, problem-solving and critical thinking. The After-School Programs operate Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6pm during the school year and 8am to 4pm during the summer. After School Instructor will work approximately 15 hours per week during the school year and approximately 40 hours per week during the 5-week summer program. Responsibilities:
- Provide daily supervision and engaging activities for up to 25 youth
- Engage groups of youth to implement reading intervention strategies
- Engage groups of youth to design and implement STEAM-focused project-based learning, service-learning, and/or experiential learning projects (Science, Technology, Engineering Art, Math)
- Lead/guide youth during program activities (projects, trips)
- Supervise and mentor youth during recreational, physical, academic, and project-based programs.
- Tutor and assist youth individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by school day teachers
- Communicate with parents and school community
- Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
- Participate in team meetings, trainings and professional development opportunities.
- Complete other duties related to programming, e.g. reporting, attendance, etc.
