The City of Ankeny is accepting applications for the fulltime position of Teen Services Librarian with the Kirkendall Public Library. This position reports to the Public Services Manager and performs professional library functions requiring specialized knowledge and expertise in all areas of public library services especially those areas relating to tweens, teens, and new adults. Knowledge of working with parents, caregivers and educators is also required.
The salary range is $32.19 - $43.20 per hour with starting pay up to midpoint with commensurate experience and qualifications.

- Plans, markets, and implements programs and outreach events for tweens/teens, including a summer library program, and maintains relationships with community partners.
- Assists the Adult Services Librarian in managing and maintaining the Makerspace.
- Provides reader’s advisory and coordinates book displays and bookmarks.
- Maintains statistics on Tween/Teen Services and delivers monthly report to Public Services Manager.
- Assists with collection development.
- Regularly seeks community input in order to provide relevant tween/teen services and programs.
- Interacts with customers and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Assists in enforcing library policies and procedures.
- Provides support for second-floor technology.
- Provides 2nd floor desk coverage as-needed.
- Participates in continuing education programs related to the position and library services to provide best customer service.
- Ability to work collaboratively with others in a rapidly-changing environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduation with a master’s degree from an accredited college or university, in Library Science (MLS), business administration (MBA), public administration (MPA), education (M.Ed.) or related field.
- Experience in a library setting, preferably with programming experience and familiarity working with tweens/teens. Familiarity working with parents, caregivers, and educators is also preferred.
- Must obtain and maintain State of Iowa Public Librarian Endorsement within 6 months of hire.
- Intermediate computer skills required.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
- Works in office environment.
- Must keep regular and reliable attendance at work.
- Hours: 40 hours per week; evenings and weekends as needed to meet programming/service needs.
