What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanical Technician position at City of Arlington?

Under general supervision, performs corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance on the mechanical components and instrumentation in the water and wastewater systems.

Essential Job Functions
1. Ability to perform corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance of the mechanical components and instrumentation of water treatment, distribution, elevated tank and lift station equipment and facilities including complex, specialized systems and equipment.

2. Ability to perform general maintenance activities that include cleaning, landscaping, painting, warehousing, and hauling.

3. Ability to communicate the status of equipment and processes to others.

4. Ability to use the computerized maintenance and management system.

5. Ability to purchase and receive materials and other supplies.

Other Job Functions
1. Ability to plan, direct, monitor and provide management oversight for Water Treatment, Laboratory Services, and Water Resource Services activities. Provides management of personnel including hiring, performance evaluations, discipline, rulemaking, safety assurance, and other duties supporting a team environment.

2. Ability to plan, direct and monitor preparation and implementation of annual operating budget and capital improvement projects for Water Treatment, Laboratory Services, and Water Resource Services

3. Ability to plan and implement actions that ensure meeting all regulatory requirements for water treatment, production, pretreatment, watershed management, and laboratory services.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of theory, practices, tools and equipment used in mechanical preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Knowledge of basic water treatment and wastewater collection processes and systems.
  • Knowledge of function and assembly of mechanical equipment; safety procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic math and skilled in word processing and work management software.
  • Skill in communicating policies and procedures; skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to PC, fax machine, two-ton truck and crane, pickup, radio, hand tools, plant process equipment, power tools, instrumentation, calculator and copier.
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to carrying, climbing, dragging, driving, filing, holding, kneeling, lifting up to 100 pounds, pulling, pushing, seeing, sitting, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, typing, walking and writing.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.
  • Ability to organize tasks.
  • Incumbent is subject to fume/odor, dust/mites, chemical, toxic waste, mechanical, electrical, radiation, and explosive hazards.


Qualifying Education and Experience:

A high school education and completion of basic water and wastewater technical school training. One year experience working with complex mechanical equipment and systems Valid Texas Driver License, Class C and CDL.
