The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Laborer at Harrah's Cherokee Center Asheville, within the Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities Department. Located in Downtown Asheville, Harrah’s is host to a variety of year round events including well known musicians and bands, comedy, fairs, ballets, and more! This role of the Laborer is to perform the essential behind the scenes work that keeps these events running smoothly, including working as part of the event crew, maintenance crew, or custodial crew. While this position does require routine custodial duties, it also includes the set up and breakdown of events, as well as the opportunity to become familiar with some of the technical aspects of event management.
Pay: $18.25 - $19.16, eligible for overtime in accordance with City Policy.
Schedule: This is a part-time, 30 hour per week position. The schedule and hours will vary according to the event schedule; evenings, weekends and some holidays will be required.

Provides routine custodial services, including bathrooms, office and event space
Provides event support setting up tables, chairs and/or staging and other equipment as needed based on the event of the day
Provides weather related maintenance, such as shoveling snow, operating a snow blower or spreading ice melt. .
Responds to requests in a timely and effective manner.
Uses courteous mannerisms when addressing the public or clients, especially when performing duties backstage in proximity of competing sports teams or musicians.
Assists in training temporary employees.
Performs other similar duties as required.
Required Education & Experience:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Preferred Requirements:
High School Diploma preferred but not required.
Custodial and/or event set-up experience is a plus!
Licensing and Certifications:
Requires training in workplace safety and blood borne pathogens. Training provided by the employer.
Applicants with equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
Knowledge:
