MAJOR FUNCTION: This is professional and technical library work involving the overview,
management, direction, supervision and coordination of all library activities, services and programs.
Work involves assisting the Librarian in the overall administration of the library. Work is performed
under the direction of the Librarian.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Assists the Librarian in formulation of library goals, policies, and procedures.
Responsible for assisting in the selection, training, and supervision of staff members; daily operations
of the Library; planning, developing, promoting, and implementing Library activities, services and
programs. Serves as the library’s administrator in the absence of the Librarian. Represents the library
at professional meetings, conferences, and civic functions. Responsible for assisting with the
development, evaluation, care, and arrangement of the library’s collection. Performs circulation desk
activities and assists patrons with the use of computers, electronic media, and digital resources.
Maintains contacts with library automation and book vendors. Researches and troubleshoots computer
problems, contacts IT support staff, performs routine maintenance, develops technology plans, and
advises Librarian on technical needs. Performs related non-essential duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE: Must have knowledge of modern library
practices, professional techniques, procedures, methods, and equipment. Knowledge of reader interest
levels for the selection of appropriate materials and of online resources and devices provided by the
library for public use. Computer skills and ability to work with various computer software packages is
required. Ability to supervise staff at all levels and to evaluate their performance. Ability to establish
and maintain effective working relationships with city employees, state and local government
representatives, library patrons and the general public is essential.
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor Degree in related field. Master’s Degree in
Library/Information Science from a graduate program accredited by the American Library Association
with emphasis on areas of study relevant to public librarianship preferred. The successful candidate
will have at least two (2) years library work experience. A comparable amount of training and
experience may be substituted for the preferred education qualifications. Must have a valid Florida
Driver’s License.
JOB LOCATION: Auburndale Public Library, 100 W. Bridgers Ave.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Weekends, as needed.
HIRING RATE: $45,973 annually
