Hours: This position is on a 4 day a week schedule, 10-hour workday, Tuesday – Friday, 6am-4pm.
SUMMARY
Under supervision, maintains the grounds and facilities of the City’s parks, lakes, cemetery, and common spaces.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs landscaping duties including mowing, weed-eating, trimming trees and shrubs, pulling weeds, edging lawns, raking, watering plants and trees, sweeping and clearing fallen tree
- Handles maintenance of existing and construction of new park equipment (benches, tables, signs, etc.)
- Repairs and maintains equipment (mowers, playground, picnic tables, etc.)
- Make daily rounds of the grounds; cleans restrooms
- Operate a variety of landscaping equipment including mowers, edgers weed eaters
- Operate some heavy equipment including trucks and tractors
- Picks up litter and debris from grounds and parking lots; empty trash containers
- Performs general maintenance on equipment including: refueling; changing oil; lubricating parts; making minor adjustments, as necessary
- Operates a variety of hand tools, shovels, hoes, rakes loppers, litter sticks, and saws
- Assists in snow removal
- Prompt and regular attendance is required for this position
- Performs daily safety check-out/in procedures on equipment
- Locate & mark gravesite according to section, lot, and plot numbers for excavation
- Open and close graves
- Set up canopy and arrange folding chairs to prepare site for burial service
- Assist visitors with questions regarding plots, gravesites, mausoleum and cemetery
- Tests and maintains daily chemical levels on pool during swimming season
- Attend mandatory monthly safety meetings
- Wear personal protective equipment, as required
- Help other team members accomplish tasks

Requirements
EDUCATION
High School Diploma/GED
WORK EXPERIENCE
Previous mowing, weedeating, tree trimming experience preferred.
LICENSURE
Valid Kansas Drivers License required. Kansas Class B CDL preferred.
CERTIFICATION
Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator certification required prior to swim season.
KNOWLEDGE
General knowledge to use and maintenance of equipment and tools used
methods of lifting heavy articles and loads in a safe manner

Physical
- Has ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing, twisting, squatting, reaching overhead, grasping, lifting, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling and handling of objects
- Has ability to frequently lift up to 25 pounds; occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Has ability to continuously handle and manage objects up to 10 pounds – i.e. weed eating for several hours at a time
- Has normal eyesight and depth perception, with or without correction
- Hears normal tones, with or without correction
- Has ability to work within environment described below

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions, including temperature extremes. The employee may regularly be exposed to fumes, chemicals, dirt, dust and pollen. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
