Qualitative Researcher / Civic Designer

This position will focus on qualitative research and design in the City of Austin’s Office of Innovation. We focus on highly complex and pressing challenges, such as displacement, public safety, equitable access to services, and resilience; taking a resident-focused approach that solves real problems for real people. The Office of Innovation works closely with numerous City departments and community groups, and uses a variety of methodologies and approaches to understand problems and design solutions that create outcomes today, and help build an equitable, sustainable and innovative Austin in the future.

This position will use various qualitative research and design methods to frame, prototype, and deliver solutions in a range of focus areas, based on the lived experience of the residence we serve.

Strong candidates will demonstrate the following:

• Comfort and agility working within and pivoting between challenging topics, sometimes with a high level of ambiguity, in the public safety, human services, health and environment, and innovative government realms, among others
• Ability to scope, mange and deliver complex projects within a given set of resource constraints
• Ability to organize and collaborate with diverse teams of various skill sets from within and outside the City organization
• Ability to create compelling visuals and reports that simply and effectively convey complex information to a variety of audiences, including residents, colleagues, and decision-makers

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $31.62 - $41.11 per hour

• Bachelor's (Required)

Experience:

• qualitative research and testing: 3 years (Preferred)
• usability testing for services, processes, & products: 3 years (Preferred)
