The Volunteer Supervisor is responsible for daily supervision of the shelter's volunteer program as well as recruiting, mentoring and the retention of volunteers. Works to support Animal Control Supervisors to implement and coordinate the animal shelters volunteer and outreach program. Assigns, selects and supports community volunteers with animal enrichment, animal care and handling, working with potential adopters. Supports animal control/care specialist and kennel technicians with assigned tasks by teaching community volunteers in proper care of sheltered animals. Must not be allergic to animals and be able to work all assigned shifts. Treats animals with kindness and respect to ensure animals are socially ready for adoption.
- Responsible for the daily supervision and management of the shelter volunteer program. Includes selection, training, assignment of daily work, and being able to assist their needs to meet volunteer program objectives. Oversight would include on-site and off-site events and programs.
- Responsible for recording, tracking and analyzing volunteer program data metrics to present monthly or as required by management.
- Maintain proper sanitary animal conditions to include cleaning animal cages, walls, windows, and flooring. Additional includes ensuring animal enrichment areas are free of solid waste. May include coordination with other animal shelter staff to ensure these tasks are handled.
- Performs personnel-related duties including hiring, training, performance evaluations and discipline
- Assists with the transportation of animals to rescue groups, shelters, veterinarian hospitals, and/or adopter/foster clients.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days).
- Three years of experience in Animal Shelter, Volunteer, or Non-Profit operations or a related field.
- Experienced customer service liaison with the ability to schedule, coach, motivate and multitask and direct community volunteers.
- Demonstrated prior supervisory experience.
PREFERRED:
- Current Animal Shelter, Veterinarian Clinic or Volunteer work as related.
- Bachelors’ Degree from an accredited college or institution in Basic Science, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, or a related field.
- Bilingual
- State Certification in Euthanasia
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to demonstrate and directly apply respectable public relations skills. Ability to handle animals without harm to them, others, or self. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers, rescue groups, and the public.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. This position may provide services or perform duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the employee in this position may be required to remain in the shelter or in a transportation vehicle to perform needed services.
