If so, the Bellevue City Attorney’s Office is the place to be. The Bellevue City Attorney’s Office is a 32-member department that provides civil advice and litigation, criminal prosecution, and risk management services to the City. We are looking for an experienced paralegal to join the Civil Division of the Office. The successful candidate will join a fast-paced diverse, collegial, and supportive work environment, with opportunities to work on a wide variety of legal matters,
* This position is Hybrid eligible - must be onsite at least 2 days per week.*
- Provides legal support to civil division of the City Attorney’s Office, including both advice and litigation attorneys.
- Conducts legal research relating to complex problems and projects and prepares memoranda and/or opinions containing recommended courses of action and/or solutions to legal issues.
- Conducts investigations and interviews with City employees and others in order to gather information relating to particular legal issues and/or litigation.
- Provides assistance to various City departments relating to responses to legal issues and/or preparation of legal documents.
- Assists the City Attorney and/or Assistant City Attorneys in preparing for trial/hearing and assists the City Attorney and/or Assistant City Attorneys in preparing responses to requests for legal opinions.
- Prepares drafts of initial pleadings, discovery documents, motions, briefs and other legal pleadings and papers relating to litigation.
- Files and serves documents with state and federal courts, with administrative agencies and boards, and with other parties.
- Prepares graphic aids, tables, PowerPoint presentations and other audio/visual devices for the City Attorney and/or Assistant City Attorneys.
- Performs data and document management and retrieval. Redacts documents, as necessary and prepares privilege logs.
- Strong client service and leadership abilities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and detail-oriented skills.
- Strong time management skills.
- Familiar with federal, state, and local rules and processes for filing and serving documents.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize work, balance competing demands with frequent interruptions and meet established deadlines.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, and Adobe, and the proven ability to learn and navigate new computer programs and databases.
- Experience with e-discovery software and databases.
- Experience with Prolaw (case management system) and GovQA preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with people in a sensitive and courteous manner.
- Ability to work as a team player as well as independently with minimal supervision.
- Paralegal certification preferred.
- Three or more years of professional related experience.
- Or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
