Duties and Responsibilities
The individual in this position is expected to engage in the following work-related activities.
- Supervises and directs the work of assigned staff, coordinating with others as needed to confirm applicable policies and assisting with developing necessary procedures for elements of programs and services.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; establish schedules and methods for police property and evidence unit operations; implement policies and procedures.
- Responsible for training and scheduling of police evidence technicians and performing in those duties during such employees' absences.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for receipt, storage, security, and releases of property under the control of the property division; perform regular, detailed audits of stored items; ensure integrity of records associated with inventory control and documentation; serve as liaison with investigations and patrol staff regarding property handling and security.
- Regular contact with others outside own workgroup, such as visitors, vendors and/or other employees. Primary purpose of contact is to explain, clarify, or interpret detailed and somewhat complex or sensitive information; contacts are non-routine and require discretion and thoughtful communication efforts.
- Makes recommendations on budgetary decisions. May have authority to approve some expense items. May make recommendations on expenses and/or revenue-generating activities.
- Prepares routine and complex documents, such as correspondence, technical and confidential documents, financial documents, reports, contracts, presentations, and policies and procedures proofreading for format, spelling, grammar, typos and content clarity; and provide office support as needed.
- Manages divisional special projects.
- May coordinate and/or supervise events and meetings, including location arrangement, preparation of materials, scheduling, meeting minutes and travel arrangements.
- May represent department meetings to gather information and impart the department's views and decisions on issues, and/or coordinate with other departments to ensure administration of programs is consistent with policy and legal requirements.
- Complies with safety requirements of the position and actively promotes safe work practices.
- In an emergency event or an officially declared State of Emergency, responds as directed to ensure the restoration of essential public services, facilities and infrastructure.

- Maintain working knowledge and understanding of LEDS and CJIS policy and regulations.
- Maintain working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinance pertaining to evidence retention and release.
- Maintain working knowledge of principles and practices of evidence management.
- Terminology and procedures used by criminal justice agencies.
- Standards and principles of law enforcement records management systems to ensure accuracy and completeness in property entries.
- Supervision and performance management principles.
- Principles and techniques of project and program management.
- Effectively compose accurate and grammatically correct reports, presentations, policies and business correspondence appropriate for the intended audience.
- Maintain budgetary proficiency to advise on revenues, expenses, and budgetary status and processes.
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public and other stakeholders sufficient to exchange or convey information to provide and receive work direction.
- Prepare, read, analyze and interpret policy documents as well as complex financial reports and statements supported by statistical data and other documentation.
- Manage a high volume of tasks at one time, including organizing and prioritizing own work and the work of others.
- Work independently with minimum direction while also working as part of a team and collaborating with others.

Minimum Qualifications
- High School/GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities as outlined in this job description.
- 1 year experience in a similar position and/or performing similar tasks
- Current and valid Driver's license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Associate’s degree from a two-year college or Technical School
- 4 to 5 years’ experience in a police setting in a similar position and performing similar tasks
