What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adaptive Softball Coordinator position at City of Bloomington, MN?
Primary Objective
Provide on and off site leadership and supervision through planning, organizing and directing programming for adaptive softball, under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor.
Examples of Duties
- Provide a safe, fun and appropriate experience for all participants.
- Assists Recreation Supervisor to recruit, interview, recommend and train seasonal staff.
- Work with Recreation Supervisor to manage and supervise Adaptive Softball.
- Provide work direction for Adaptive Softball Leads and Instructors.
- Plan, prepare and communicate weekly softball schedule for participants and staff and coordinate with Recreation Supervisor to approve time off requests.
- Communicate regularly with Supervisor, public, staff, program participants, and families.
- Prepare, submit and review all reports required on participants, staff, incidents and property damage. Turn in all documentation to Supervisor in a timely manner.
- Attend, participate, and help facilitate staff trainings and meetings.
- Provide support as needed for all participants and staff to create an inclusive environment.
- Work as a team member to ensure the program's compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Minnesota Human Rights Act.
- Organize and keep inventory of all equipment utilized at softball.
- Evaluate and give on-going feedback to all softball staff as well as overall program.
- Participate in performance evaluation, identifying accomplishments, goals, and personal improvement plans.
- Follow staff policies and procedures.
- Ensure that all staff and volunteers follow the established policies and procedures.
- Complete all other duties as assigned by Recreation Supervisor.
- Adhere to and enforce state health guidelines.
Minimum/Desirable Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be available the entire season, June 18-August 6, including trainings and orientations. Also, in advance of the season for staff training and program planning.
- Must successfully pass a Criminal and Driving Background Check.
- Must possess valid driver’s license.
- Must have supervisory and/or leadership experience and ability to manage time and work independently.
- Must have experience working with people with disabilities.
- Must have good communication, leadership and organizational skills.
- Must have a willingness to learn about and support people with disabilities as they participate fully in City sponsored Parks and Recreation programs.
- Currently certified in First Aid/CPR/AED, or have ability to obtain.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or coursework in Recreation, Sports and Leisure, Education Therapeutic Recreation, or related field.
- Experience working in community recreation or education programs with teens and people with disabilities.
- Creativity and ability to plan, lead and implement activities.
- Responsible, reliable and be able to work as part of a team.
Supplemental Information
Adaptive Softball runs Tuesdays beginning on June 18th through August 6th with staff hours of 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Softball staff training will occur on June 17th. The coordinator additionally assists in program planning prior to the start of season, dates and times flexible.
BONUS INCENTIVES
Commitment Bonus- A seasonal employee who works until at least August 6th with no time off will receive $100 bonus on their final paycheck.
Referral Bonus– A seasonal employee who refers a new seasonal employee will receive $100 bonus on their final paycheck. Referral paperwork required within one week of employees start date and both employees must be employed for the entirety of the scheduled season to be eligible.

Ongoing Part-Time employees who are employed for more than 6 months will make contributions to the pension program (PERA) through payroll deductions unless they qualify for one of the exemptions. In addition, Part-Time may receive Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook and eligable for paid parental leave after 6 months of employment.
Temporary/Seasonal employees do not receive benefits outside of Paid-time Off (PTO) at rate outlined in employee handbook.
