What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Works Maintenance Worker position at City of Brookings?
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of public works facilities; does other related work as required.
-Installs, repairs, and maintains water distribution system including meters, fire hydrants,service lines and mains.
-Performs general maintenance and repairs of sewer collection system including lines, laterals,and manholes.
-Maintains and repairs streets, alleys and right-of-ways which include patching pavement;cleaning and repairing sidewalks, curbs and streets; painting crosswalks and curbs.
-Maintains City's storm drainage system by cleaning and repairing ditches, storm drainagelines and catch basins.
-Repairs and replaces street regulatory, directional and informational signs.
-Operates light and medium construction equipment including mowers, and various powertools.
-Road crew operations, including street signage.
-Monthly meter readings; the repair, replacement, cleaning, and testing of water meters;installation of new water lines, maintenance and repair old or broken main water lines, valves,fire hydrants, well pumps, and water reservoirs.
-Installation of new sewer lateral and main lines, maintenance of water and wastewater lines,and overall maintenance to assure trouble-free system operation.
PARKS
-Maintain city parks, including mowing, pruning, and trash removal.
-Operates light and medium construction equipment including mowers, and various powertools.
-General maintenance services for all city buildings, clean-up of City parks, roads, right-of- ways, and open ditches, including vegetation control;
-Performs routine maintenance on city buildings and vehicles.
-Performs other related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Valid driver's license, possession of or ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers License within one year.
· Employee is required to live within a twenty (20) minute response time of the Public Works Shop and must be available to work nights and weekends if required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· Applicants with state certifications for operating and maintaining water and wastewater infrastructure are highly desired.

Pay: $34,572.00 - $46,332.00 per year
