JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the City’s outdoor swimming pool, swim instruction programs, scheduling lifeguards/swim instructors; maintenance of the pool and pool facilities; recordkeeping and performing other work related functions as required. This is a working supervisory position requiring weekend and holiday work.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The fundamental duties and tasks that define the job.
- Supervises lifeguards and plans work schedules so that there is adequate staffing at all times.
- Chemical analysis and application
- Assist Parks Director in hiring of lifeguards
- Reviews and approves timesheets, daily deposits and receipts.
- Ensure employees are properly trained
- Hold monthly training & safety meetings for all employees
- Ensure proper operating condition of all equipment
- Handle first aid problems
- Enforce the City of Castroville Swimming Pool rules and regulations to staff and public
- Maintain positive public relations at the swimming pool
- Document and reports all disciplinary problems and accidents to the Parks Director
- Oversees daily maintenance of City’s outdoor swimming pool, bathhouse and adjacent pool areas.
- Set a positive example for all employees
- Maintains and informs Parks Director when supplies are needed
- Schedule special events held at the pool
- Other duties as deemed necessary or as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum requirements for formal education and job-related experience. Prefer candidates with significant knowledge and experience in pool management operations. Training equivalent to high school diploma required. General management experience preferred. Must have 2 years of lifeguard experience and Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR & First Aid Certification.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Utilized in the performance of the essential functions of the job.
- Knowledge of and skill in performing mathematical calculations
- Knowledge of hazards and safety measures as they apply to the type of work being performed and equipment used
- Knowledge of personal policies and procedures
- Proficient in the use of materials, tools and equipment commonly used in a Pool environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse individuals, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to supervise and motivate employees
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to perform all physical requirements of the job
License and Certification

Physical exertions to manually move, lift, carry, or push heavy objects. Climbing in and out of the swimming pool, up and down ladders. Employee should have the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of verbal and written communication as well as the ability to convey detailed or important instructions to other employees and the general public.
