Description

SUMMARY: Perform sanitation collection services for commercial and residential accounts for the city; to deliver sanitation to designated site; and to perform minor maintenance and cleaning activities on sanitation heavy equipment.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Receives direction from the Collections Foreman and/or the Transfer Station Manager. Limited supervision of Laborer(s) assigned to truck.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

• Perform and document daily pre-trip inspections of assigned sanitation equipment.
• Operate and maintain Rear Load Truck.
• Perform sanitation collection services for commercial and residential accounts for the city; deliver solid waste to the city transfer station or designated site.
• After dumping clean active floor and replace safety chains or ensure rail is in place.
• Perform minor maintenance activities on sanitation heavy equipment; clean sanitation equipment; clean and maintain dumpster yard.
• Maintain appropriate logs and records on collection and delivery activities.
• Perform work activities according to safe work practices and procedures.
• Clean and maintain all containment areas commercial route.
• Report all safety concerns to supervisor and/or Safety Coordinator.
• Ensure the Pick up additional bags and boxes outside containment area and properly document for additional charges.
• Reports any safety concerns to the Transfer Station Manager and/or the Safety Coordinator.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Wear designated PPE when required – Hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and gloves.
• Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
• Operating sanitation collection equipment.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
• Pre-trip inspection daily on any vehicle assigned to operate.
• Report any obstructions that impede operations to supervisor.

Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the necessary functions of this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of sanitation collection.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
• Ability to perform sanitation services for commercial accounts for the city.
• Knowledge of pertinent federal, state, or local laws, regulations, or ordinances.
• Ability to deliver solid waste to the designated facility.
• Knowledge of city streets layout.
• Ability to perform minor maintenance activities on sanitation heavy equipment.
• Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following: o walking, standing, lifting or sitting for extended periods of time

• Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for: o making observations
  • communicating with others
  • reading and writing
  • operating assigned equipment and vehicle

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years of increasing responsibility in sanitary services including the collection and delivery of solid waste. Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Possession of, an appropriate, valid, Wyoming driver's license. Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Wyoming Class B Commercial Driver's License within 90 days of hire date.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Travel from site to site; field environment; exposure to noise, dust, smoke, fumes, gases, infectious materials, and inclement weather conditions; work around heavy sanitation equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heavy lifting; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
