What are the responsibilities and job description for the PHARMACIST position at City of Cincinnati?

This employee efficiently operates a clinical pharmacy including dispersement of and educational counseling about the prescriptions issued. Employee ensures patients receives proper care related to pharmacy services and performs a variety administrative functions relative to pharmacy services within the Cincinnati Health Department. Perform related duties as required.(Illustrative only. Any one position may not require all of the listed KSAs nor do the listed examples include all the KSAs which may be required.)
 
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of pharmacology, toxicology, drug interactions, and drug utilization.
Disease and public policies as they apply to pharmacy services.
Inventory management and procurement procedures.
Basic principles of report preparation.
Medical terminology usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Community resources related to health and social services.
Organizational and leadership skills.

Skill to:
Operate appropriate computer equipment; use properly all related hardware and software.
Operate assigned vehicle in the course of duty.

Ability to:
Interpret and explain drug usage and procedures.
Counsel patients on a variety of health related issues.
Respond to emergency situations.
Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
Work independently in the absence of supervision.
Prepare clear and concise reports.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Each applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Pharmacy or  have a Doctorate Degree (PharmD) from an accredited college or university with major course work in pharmacology.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must have a valid Driver's License.
Must have, or have the ability to obtain, a valid State of Ohio Pharmacy License.
 
MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.
Environmental Conditions: Pharmacy environment; exposure to computer screens; work closely with others.

Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; light to moderate lifting and carrying; general manual dexterity required; ability to distinguish colors required.
 Examples of Work Performed

Prepares and fills prescriptions as authorized by physicians and other appropriate health care professionals; provides instructions and counsels patients on appropriate use of med¬icines.
Develops and maintains medical records with complete documentation for each patient; maintains a variety of logs and medical books relating to types of drugs, diseases, and drug interactions; prepares treatment reports as necessary.
Answers questions and provides medical and health education information to patients; interprets and evaluates medical terminology and claims; assesses and evaluates patient's needs; provides drug education, counseling, and treatment; refers special needs patients to proper authorities for treatment.
Maintains compliance with all applicable health laws, codes, and regulations.
Provides responsible staff assistance to the Pharmacy Services Manager including participating in the development of health and pharmaceutical manuals.
Maintains inventory of drugs and supplies for assigned pharmacy; contacts distributors and orders supplies as necessary.
Stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of pharmacology.
Maintains a professional working relationship with those contacted in the course of daily work.

Probationary Period
Twelve months

Supervision Exercised

May exercise technical and functional supervision over other pharmacists and support staff.
