LIFE OF THE ELIGIBILITY LIST
The life of the eligibility list from this examination will not exceed one year from the date the list is established. Candidates will remain eligible for no more than one year from the date they have been added to the eligibility list.

SALARY: The prevailing salary for this position as established by Ordinance of the Council of the City of Cleveland is $27.50 - $28.73 per hour.
EXAMINATION INFORMATION
EXPERIENCE EVALUATION: Applicant’s grade will be determined based on Education and Experience found in application.
DUTIESInspects and enforces Public Health Laws (under state and local codes) concerning food service and food handling operations, swimming pools, barber shops, hotels, motels, laundries, trailer parks, marinas, schools, and other environmental programs. Answers and investigates nuisance complaints dealing with buildings/dwellings/vacant lot sanitation, weed control, solid waste control, and vector control. Is involved in surveying for rodent problems and baiting rat burrows, etc. Trains and supervises Public Health Sanitarians, Environmental Health Specialists In Training, or other temporary, seasonal, or permanent employees in these and related duties and, as needed, assists supervisors in the administration of environmental health programs and activities. Performs other jobrelated duties as required. May be assigned other tasks during public health emergencies. Follows all operations and safety policies and safe work practices. Attends and participates in operations and safety training classes and demonstrates competence (demonstration of competence may be determined by exam.) Wears and properly utilizes safety equipment in accordance with Divisional policy at all times.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSA Bachelor’s Degree with 45 quarter hours or 30 semester hours in Science, Math, or Chemistry from an accredited four?year college or university is required. Two years of full time paid experience as an Environmental Health Specialist (EHS), Environmental Health Specialist In Training (EHSIT), or Registered Sanitarian is required. One year of paid employment in food service or retail food establishment or current Food Safety certification (equivalent to ServSafe or State of Ohio Level Two certification in Food Safety) is preferred. Must be an EHS in good standing with the State of Ohio at the time of hire and throughout employment in this classification. A valid State of Ohio Driver's
License is required. Must own or have access to a properly registered and insured vehicle
(mileage will be reimbursed). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) required include: Must be able to lift and carry 30 pounds. Climb and work in difficult physical settings and terrain. Lifting heavy objects such as manhole covers. Handle and relate with different people. Organize time effectively. Communicate both orally and in writing. Work independent of others, and in team settings. Utilize necessary tools, equipment, technology, and forms. Must be willing to work irregular hours. Must be willing to work alone. Must have a working knowledge of available sources of information related to environmental health.
NOTE: Minimum qualifications must be met as of the last day of the filing period unless otherwise stated.
VETERANS’ PREFERENCE
Veterans' preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans' credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant’s supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service connected disability.
NOTE: Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed service document indicating type of discharge or separation and the dates of active service will be accepted as proof of active service.
THE COMMISSION WILL NOT ENTERTAIN APPEALS FOR VETERANS’ PREFERENCE CREDIT
AFTER THE APPLICANT HAS FILED HIS/HER APPLICATION. THE DECISION OF THE COMMISSION IS FINAL.
