What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wastewater Plant Manager position at City of Columbus-Department of Public Utilities?
This full-time position will manage the Jackson Pike Wastewater Treatment Plant operation, a Class IV treatment facility, and several collection system facilities, including stormwater and sanitary pump stations, biofilters, and other operational and control structures. This position shall perform related duties as required to ensure that all policies, procedures, and regulations for plant operation and maintenance, personnel management, facility modification, and expenditures are developed and maintained. Some of the duties include reviewing and interpreting Plant operating data and communicating with Division staff to recommend operational changes to ensure NPDES Permit Compliance for the Plant’s wet stream and solids stream and the collections system operation components noted. This position will generate, review, revise and submit miscellaneous reports to EPA, Regulatory Compliance staff, Consultants, Administration and Treatment Engineering Section on Plant operations, defined collection system operations, safety, Permit Compliance, budget expenditures, inventory control, and various other Operating or Maintenance processes. This position will monitor and assess the facility and its operations for ways to improve upon operational and process control and carry out directives to meet Divisional, Departmental and Citywide goals. The position will also cooperate with Treatment Engineering staff, Plant staff, Design Professionals, and Construction firms during the development, design, construction, and startup of Capital Improvement Projects.
To be considered for these positions, candidates must Possession of a valid State of Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Class IV Wastewater Operator certificate for wastewater treatment works and three (3) years of experience as an assistant manager, maintenance manager, operations manager, chief chemist, or chief engineer of a municipal wastewater facility. Substitution(s): A valid State of Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Class III Wastewater Operator certificate for wastewater treatment works may be substituted for the required certification in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code Section 3745-7-02(E). Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. They must also possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. The salary range: $93,392 - $140,005 annually.
