SUMMARY
This position performs manual and semi-skilled work in the maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of public streets, utilities, buildings, grounds, and facilities within the Stormwater division and other department assignments to assist with overall department operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Repairs streets, sidewalks, storm sewers and manholes to ensure conformance with specifications and regulations.
- Cleans stormwater catch basins, storm sewer lines, and replaces worn and damaged parts.
- Operates and inspects equipment such as backhoes, loaders, jackhammers, pumps, air compressors, and other equipment used in the repair and maintenance of stormwater lines, streets, and sidewalks. Operates trucks and trailers to move equipment and supplies to job sites.
- May act as Foreman as assigned.
- Assists in televising areas of infiltration, damage, buried manholes, and lines.
- Collects water samples for contaminants and bacteria testing.
- Performs general road maintenance and related activities including flagging traffic, mowing, temporary and permanent asphalt surface repairs, manhole repair, patching holes, sawing pavement, concrete repair and pouring, sign repair and installs, clearing brush, vegetation control, sweeping, routing and sealing road cracks.
- Performs maintenance on storm sewer including ditching, culvert repair, replacements and catch basin rebuild and repair.
- Assists with snow removal operations.
- Maintains equipment in a clean and operating manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Inspects, maintains and repairs stormwater lines.
- Operates leak detection equipment.
- Cleans and repairs storm sewers and catalog the repairs.
- Televises areas of infiltration, damage, buried manholes, and lines and documents findings.
- Completes work orders, daily activity reports, inspection reports, and timesheets; maintains maintenance and service records/logs, and other pertinent information.
- Locates storm drains using electronic equipment.
- Trains new employees and coordinates cross-training opportunities. Coach and mentor staff to meet goals and maintain motivation.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to read plans and specifications, construct forms, installs streets, sidewalks, storm sewers, and other municipal structures.
- Ability to work in confined spaces.
- Must be available for on-call after-hours needs, as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three to five years directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to set up and complete projects in concrete, brick, concrete block, and asphaltic concrete from plans and specifications.
- Ability to repair and restore projects to original specifications as outlined in construction drawings.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Possess and maintain a valid Commercial Drives License Class.
- Complete within 1 year: Safety Training, Confined Space Training, Trench and Excavation Safety, Work Zone Traffic Safety.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations necessary for the position.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Evening, weekend or hours adjustments may be required as job duties demand.
