For evaluation purposes, acceptable qualifying experience for all positions must have been in a paid capacity unless noted otherwise in the minimum qualifications for the posted position.
Additionally, 30+ hours per week will be counted as full-time employment and will receive full credit for the amount of time employed. A minimum of 15 through 29 work hours per week will be counted as part-time employment and will receive half credit for the amount of time employed.

EDUCATION:- High School Diploma or GED
- One (1) year of experience as a veterinary assistant/technician working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter/animal control setting
- An Associate degree (or higher) in an animal/veterinary science or veterinarian technology field will meet the education and experience requirements
- A current Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) certificate issued by the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) will meet the education and experience requirements
- Must obtain Euthanasia certification issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) within probationary period
- Must obtain Certified Veterinary Assistant (CVA) Introduction certification issued by the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA) within one (1) year of appointment
- NO Felony Drug offenses within the last 10 years
- NO Animal Cruelty convictions
- Availability to work varying shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Basic computer skills
- Customer service skills
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of dog and cat diseases, medical conditions and animal handling/behavior
- Ability to collect specimens and perform diagnostic testing
- Ability to maintain database with accurate information on the owners and animals in our care
- Ability to properly label and date medication
- Ability to maintain an accurate inventory of all medications in stock
- Ability to lift in excess of fifty (50) pounds
- Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures
- College coursework in animal/veterinary science, veterinary assistant certification, animal control officer certification or euthanasia technician certification is a plus. Experience in a high quality, high volume spay and neuter clinic is a plus
