What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Safety Aide position at City of Denton, TX?

Under close supervision, the Water Safety Aide is responsible for assisting the Water Safety Instructor with teaching swimming and diving lessons and promoting pool and water safety.
Essential Functions:
- Assists the Water Safety Instructor with teaching swimming and diving lessons.
- Ensures the safety of class participants.
- Assists in preparation of lessons plans for classes.
- Performs simple record keeping tasks including attendance and participant records.
- Provides exceptional customer service to participants and patrons.
- Attends in-service trainings as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Knowledge of swimming skills and/or passed American Red Cross Learn to swim Level 4
- Must have effective communication skills.
- Must hold a current American Red Cross CPR-Professional Rescuer and First Aid certification (or can obtain one on their own and produce a copy to the supervisor within one (1) month of employment).
- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to communicate effectively in an instructional situation with children and parents.
- Ability to get along with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
- Must pass a drug test, criminal history background check and social security number verification.
- Must pass a physical examination.
- Must be able to work the entire season; weekends, morning and/or evening hours may be required.

Environmental Factors:
The essential functions of this position are performed in chlorinated water in a natatorium or at outdoor aquatic facilities in 80-105 degree heat. Potential exists for lifting up to 50 pounds to assist swim participants. Instructors may incur repeated emersions of up to two hours in pool water. Water temperature may vary from 76-85 degrees.
