Responsible for assisting with the supervision and coordination of structured activities for day camp including sports, arts and crafts, nature/outdoor, and other general activities for school-age children.
Essential Functions:
- Assists camp supervisor with planning, organizing, and implementing various recreational activities for children and teens
- Leads, supervises, and conducts classes, activities, and special events
- Must be able to properly supervise children and respond immediately in case of emergency, including administering first aid as necessary
- Follow appropriate training and lead small group activities in an atmosphere where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning and recreational experiences
- Maintain a clean and orderly environment for children
- Assist in the enforcement of program rules
- Maintain discipline and enforce proper safety precautions
- Administer medication and maintain medical records and logs
- Demonstrate initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities
- Must be able to safely drive a 15-passenger van and transport children to various locations daily
- Ensure all equipment and materials are accessible, appropriate, and in good condition
- Assists camp supervisor in maintaining attendance, discipline, and injury records as needed
- Enforce all site and State regulations
- May be required to lift heavy items
- Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency:
- Must be 18 years or older

- Knowledge of a variety of recreational day camp and the ability to convey that knowledge into an organized recreational activity
- Knowledge of childhood development
- Basic skills in performing and instructing such activities as arts and crafts, sports, games, and creative dramatics, etc.

Preferences:
- Preference will be given to individuals able to work Spring Break Camp March 13-17, 2023
- Completion of one year of college (prefer coursework emphasizing education, childhood development, or recreation studies)
- Three months of full-time experience or six months part-time experience planning, coordinating, and implementing recreation programs for school-age groups
- Previous experience working in a camp setting
Conditions of Employment:
- Must have and maintain a valid Class "C" Driver's License and valid state required minimum automobile liability insurance prior to employment (must obtain Texas Class "C" driver's license and state required minimum automobile liability insurance within 90 days of hire per state law)
- Must pass a drug test, driver's license check, social security verification and criminal history background check
- Must pass a physical examination
- Must be available for various training during the time period of May 15 - May 29, 2023
- Must be able to obtain Adult and Pediatric CPR, AED and First Aid certification by May 26, 2023
- Must be able to obtain City of Denton Van Driving Certificate by May 26, 2023
- Must be able to work May 29 - August 11, 2023, Monday - Friday with shift varying within the 7am to 6pm hours
- Must work citywide special event (July 1st)

The essential functions of this position are performed in the outdoors under extreme heat and cold conditions.
