The City of Dover is currently seeking passionate, dynamic problem solvers to work as an Evidence Technician in the Police Department. This position will manage crime scene evidence and work under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. This position will also interact with the general public as well as with police officers during the course of their duties.
Job Responsibilities
· Receive and log confiscated or found property/evidence; enters information into a computer database; arrange for orderly storage of property/evidence
· Coordinates laboratory testing of seized narcotics and blood evidence with the State Medical Examiner
· Arranges for testing of narcotics currency for narcotics residue and arranges for deposit of sized narcotics currency
· Logs tested items back into evidence database; arranges for destruction or return to victims of property/evidence as designated by investigator
· Provides officers and court personnel with evidence for trial as requested
· Responsible for the destruction and disposal of weapons and ammunition
· Maintains evidence room in orderly and neat manner
Preferred Qualifications
· Law enforcement or related experience with duties associated with the position
Required Qualifications
· High School Diploma or GED
· Valid driver’s license with the ability to obtain and maintain related security clearances such as DELJIS and NCIC
· Candidate must be customer/public service oriented and exercise problem solving skills
· Excellent organizational skills required
· Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
