Job Summary:

The Program Leader performs cooking, serving, and monitoring on the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) and Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) being offered to youth at the Boys & Girls Club or located in the Edinburg area. They assist Compliance & Outcomes Program Coordinator and Program Specialist in achieving department goals, obtaining, and allocating resources. Responsible for assisting the meal program grant requirements to ensure food safety and compliance such as implementing and monitoring. Other responsibilities include assisting in implementing meal calendars and maintaining meal program compliance.

Essential Job Functions:

a. Assists with coordination and implementation of diverse meals that meet the state and federal requirements as well as being consistent with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg Rio Grande Valley's mission, core values, and vision statement.

b. Prepares, tracks, and monitors meal program sessions by ensuring meals are served with all necessary components to meet requirements for every child.

c. Ensuring compliance with established local, state, and federal meal rules/regulations as well as health requirements are being met.

d. Program Leader assists with supply and meal inventory are stored properly, documented, and a list is prepared for all necessary supplies, food, or fruit order by designated bi-weekly time.

e. Confirms whether supply and/or food delivery was sent accurately, preserved, and able to be used/served to members and the public.

f. Completes timesheet accurately and in a timely manner.

g. Monitors and assists cleaning up as well as securing the equipment, kitchen, cafeteria/facilities as assigned. Ensures equipment/facilities are as clean as possible.

h. Completes formal evaluations & assessing needs for ongoing professional development.

i. Maintaining a safe, compliant, and efficient meal program, including an understanding of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point.

j. Contributes to identifying and implementing strategies for quality improvements.

k. Attends monthly meetings for updates, training, or policy and procedure reminders. In addition to the required Civil Rights presentation to be reviewed and tested at the beginning of every new meal program session.

l. Attends conferences and training to gain additional grant industry best practices.

m. Establish and monitor adherence to policies and procedures for self.

n. Performs related work and reports as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:

b. Applicants must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.

c. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.

d. Food Handlers required to have up-to-date or obtain within 30 days of hiring.

e. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.

Required Education:

High School Diploma.

Education Preference:

Associates Degree in related fields.

Educational Substitute:

Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

Required Work Experience:

Six (6) months experience in cafeteria/school and/or meal production for youth.

Experience Preference:

One (1) year experience in cafeteria/school and/or meal production for youth.

Supervisory Experience Requirement:

Not Applicable.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

a. Requires a working knowledge of Boys & Girls Club programs and procedures.

b. Working knowledge of CACFP/SFSP meal program's operation and procedures and/or the ability to learn material as well as new updates and procedures.

c. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Ability to work effectively without direct supervision.

d. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

e. Requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment.

f. Must have the ability to supervise and assist kitchen staff. Must have good writing skills, and the ability to work effectively without direct supervision.

g. Goal-oriented, organized team player.

Work Conditions:

The job has minimum hazards associated with lifting equipment. Moderate hazards associated in cooking/serving meals and the physical demands are moderate.

Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret nutritional data, information and documents; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform detailed work, multiple deadlines and concurrent tasks; work with constant interruptions; and interact with staff and the public.
