What are the responsibilities and job description for the Parks Maintenance Day Laborer position at City of Everett, WA?
The City of Everett Parks Department is currently accepting applications for seasonal Maintenance Day Laborers. This employment is temporary (up to six months in duration). It is mandatory that the employee in this position contribute to the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System. This contribution is refundable upon the employees request at the completion of employment. A work permit fee of $12.00 per pay period must also be paid to AFSCME Local No. 113. These positions are not provided with City of Everett benefits. NATURE OF WORK Workers may perform a variety of unskilled physical tasks associated with the maintenance of parks, trails, trees, landscape beds, forests, athletic fields or facilities under the supervision of a full time parks and recreation employee or a Seasonal Lead Day Laborer; however, Day Laborers may be required to work independently at times. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Depending on area of assignment, the qualifications listed are desirable: Knowledge of maintenance of parks, trails, trees, landscape beds, athletic fields or facilities. Knowledge of proper pruning, planting, fertilizing, grinding of stumps and other related cultural practices. Knowledge of ornamental plant material including trees, shrubs and groundcover, wood stock and their use and care in the landscape. Knowledge of the use of parks maintenance equipment. Knowledge of safety precautions and the ability to identify hazards Ability and willingness to follow verbal and written instructions and to keep accurate work records. Ability to operate small hand and power tools and light equipment, autos and pickup trucks. Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relations with supervisors, coworkers and the public. Ability and willingness to support diversity and multi-cultural understanding in the workplace. Ability and willingness to maintain a work environment free of discrimination, harassment and retaliation. Ability and willingness to be punctual and dependable. Ability and willingness to perform strenuous labor tasks under varying environmental conditions. Ability and willingness to work flexible schedules, including, but not limited to, weekends and holidays. Ability and willingness to work safely and in compliance with city policies and standards. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Depending on area of assignment may be required to possess, or be able to obtain prior to appointment, a valid Washington State driver's license.
