To perform a variety of duties in the enforcement of laws, the protection of persons and property, the prevention of crimes; to control vehicular and pedestrian traffic flow and enforce State and local regulations; to perform specialized police work involving detection, investigation and prosecution of criminal offenders; and to perform a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the Police Department. The Police Officer position has a wide scope of acceptable performance. It is expected that officers will achieve a higher level of proficiency with each year of pertinent field experience.
