The starting rate of pay for this position will be within 15% of the grade range minimum. The rate determined will depend on experience and qualifications.

  1.  Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of his or her own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive.
  2. Effectively interview citizens (some are very upset), both in person and over the phone, to determine if a crime was committed. Document crimes against persons and/or property. Take photographs of evidence and collect evidence. Submit evidence as required. Transcribe and code report utilizing proper crime reporting protocol.
  3. Transcribe case reports called in by officers utilizing the dictation software (Scribe). Create grammatically correct case reports in the Records Management System.  Follow up with the officer when information is missing or if narrative needs clarification
  4. Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of the Arkansas Criminal and Traffic statues, including determining felony verses misdemeanor charges, as well as, the City of Fayetteville Code of Ordinances that are enforced by the police department.
  5. Have thorough understanding of the law enforcement process and be able to convey this information effectively to citizens including bonds, fines court procedures, Arkansas Freedom of Information Act, privacy laws, redaction of documents for public release, etc.
  6. Perform duties accurately and be detail-oriented to avoid violating a citizen's civil liberties.
  7. Input accurate, complete and timely data entry of accidents, arrests, tickets and warrants both in the police records management system and Fayetteville District Court software.  Verify any data uploaded to the software for accuracy.
  8. Work closely with the District Court and Prosecutor's office; notifying officers when they are needed for trial and keep them up-to-date when trials are settled and/or postponed.
  9. Reply to informational requests from other agencies, ambulance services, insurance companies, etc.
  10. Maintain jacket files and warrant files, complete individual daily activity reports, perform quality assurance for reports and other data entry as needed.
  11. Maintain compliance with crime related data entry standards as set forth by the FBI's National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS).
  12. Accept warrants from District Court. Enter data into police system. Maintain paper files. Confirm warrants for police officers and delete from system when served. Set court date in court software for arraignments when served.
  13. Acquire Arkansas Crime Information Center (ACIC) Basic and Advanced Certification.  These certifications are necessary to allow the employee to review driver history and enter and recover stolen property and enter and delete misdemeanor warrants.
  14. Must be able to assist with front desk duties as needed including the receipt of monies for bond and fine payments, preparing the daily deposit, auditing the daily count of the cash drawer and responding to background checks, etc.
  15. Adhere to the policies, procedures and strict confidentiality standards of the Fayetteville Police Department.
  16. Must be able to work independently with minimal to no supervision on nights, weekends and holidays.  Must be able to multi-task and prioritize workload from major crime to informational report.
  17. Must be available for scheduled on-call assignments.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

  1. High school diploma or GED and six months of related experience required.
  2. Must successfully pass background check.
  3. Ability to obtain ACIC Basic certification within six months of hire and Advanced certification with one year of hire.
  4. Must be able to type a minimum of 50 words per minute.
  5. Effectively communicate with others, both orally and in writing. Must be grammatically precise and have accurate spelling in written communications.
  6. Must be proficient in the use of a computer and related software programs. Must be able to become proficient in navigating the Washington County Detention Center's intranet for booking and arrest processing.  Must be able to effectively operate standard office equipment.
  7. Must have knowledge of cash handling principles.
  8. Requires the use of tact, initiative and independent judgement in dealing with citizens, some quite upset, while providing customer service.
  9. Must be able to use mathematics, involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and/or calculating ratios, rates and percent.
  10. Ability to manage reports that include criminal content that may be graphic in nature or emotionally disturbing.
  11. Must possess the ability to work effectively in an office environment that includes regularly receiving walk-in traffic and phone calls.  The noise level in the working environment is frequently elevated due to discussions taking place in the general area.
  12. While performing the functions of this job, the employee regularly is required to move from location to location within the department, stand and sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required to accomplish computer and office work.
