In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants). Additionally, this job classification is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.
Performs a wide variety of basic customer services and clerical tasks, including handling cash payments, balancing a cash drawer, and responding to customer complaints and inquiries in support of the Parking Services Division of the Transportation and Mobility Department.

This job classification is included within the bargaining unit represented by Teamsters Local Union 769 and therefore is subject to the terms and conditions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769.
- Provides customer service by answering telephones and responding to inquiries, assisting customers with documents and equipment
- Opens and closes accounts, collects payments, assist customers with account inquires and issues
- Resolves customer billing inquiries, complaints, and issues via phone, email, fax machine, and in-personal contact
- Collects payments; explains billing and payment practices
- Performs a variety of clerical duties by filing, entering information into databases, generating and submitting reports, researching and updating records, and processing journal entries
- Verifies accuracy and completeness of all data/information received, and researches and provides verification on information requests
- Operates a computer in transferring/transcribing/composing various documentation
- Performs daily accounting tasks related to work performed, which may include calculating, billing, and receiving various fees and payments; balancing daily revenues
- May process and issue various types of permits, certificates, and licenses as required
- Receives, processes and distributes division mail, and prepares forms, letters, and parcels for mailing
- Prepares and distributes various division records, reports, notices and other relevant materials
- Receives and reviews invoices, reports, forms and applications and distributes copies to appropriate personnel
- Maintains the City’s website pages for parking services and makes routine updates as needed.
- Assists with various administrative projects while handling customer transactions.
- Performs related work as required
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
- One (1) or more years of general clerical work or customer service experience
- Must have excellent phone and verbal communication skills and strong data entry skills
- Additional completion of coursework at an accredited college or university, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience
PREFERENCES:
- One (1) or more years of prior work experience In the Parking industry
- Prior work experience in working with ParkMobile, IPS Parking Meters, or other parking-specific software to research and verify customer transactions and payments
- One (1) or more years of customer service experience answering phone calls and handling complaints (preferably regarding parking special events)?
- Prior experience handling cash payments and balancing a cash drawer
- Experience in traffic control
- Experience coordinating event schedules as well as staffing for special events
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.
PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position is generally sedentary. Employees sit most of the time but may walk or stand for brief periods of time. Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests: Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify. All successful applicants may be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment.
An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form (J204)
