ASSISTANT DIRECTOR MAINTENANCE - PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT
CITY OF GALLATIN
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The purpose of this position is to provide responsible administration work in supervising installation, maintenance, repair and/or construction of the Leisure Services facilities. This is a working supervisor position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
1. Plans, coordinates, oversees and supervises the work of Parks and Recreation Department crews involved in the installation, maintenance or repair of public facilities.
2. Ensures the best use of manpower, supplies and equipment.
3. In coordination with superior, schedules work projects and assigns men and equipment.
4. Inspects park and/or building construction, street, ditch and ground maintenance, repair, installation and construction sites, and gives technical advice and assistance.
5. Checks projects for progress and for conformance to work plans and orders.
6. Receives request for emergency and unscheduled work and coordinates completion of task.
7. Assists crew supervisors and skilled workers on difficult jobs.
8. Coordinates the use of available equipment, materials and manpower to obtain maximum effectiveness and economy.
9. Maintains a work order system, keeps records and makes detailed reports, investigates accidents.
10. Regular and predictable attendance.
11. Ability to work in a cooperative manner with others.
12. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a construction or maintenance related field preferred.
· Four (4) years’ recent and related construction, repair, and maintenance experience.
· Previous supervisory/leadership experience preferred.
· Must have valid driver’s license.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Knowledge of the methods and practices of parks, equipment and tools, construction, repair and/or maintenance in the area assigned.
· Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work and related equipment operation, skill in the use of the equipment and tools of the trade, ability to prepare plans and detailed reports.
· Ability to plan and supervise the work of skilled, semiskilled or unskilled workers on a large scale over a wide area.
· Knowledge of modern management principles and practices.
· Ability to plan, direct and review the work of employees.
· Knowledge of the need for an attention to proper safety precautions.
· Management skills to analyze programs, policies and operational needs.
· Knowledge of the principles and practices of program management, development and administration.
· Ability to delegate authority and responsibility.
· Ability to lead and direct the operations, services, and activities of the department.
· Ability to determine the feasibility of various municipal projects.
· Ability to promote a safe work place.
· Thorough knowledge of general laws and administrative policies governing municipal financing practices and procedures.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department heads and governmental officials.
· General knowledge of current office practices and procedures and knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment, including computer hardware and software.
· Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports.
· Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructions.
· Ability to communicate effectively with other members of the staff, supervisor, and the public.
· Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form.
· Ability to develop, interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical activities include reaching, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions. Also includes the necessity to communicate by talking, hearing/listening. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance and peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus, view computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions including, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, dust/dirt, grease/oils, paint fumes, moving parts of machinery and extreme weather conditions hot and cold.
