What are the responsibilities and job description for the Traffic Sign Technician position at City of Galveston?
Under general supervision, designs and produces all City signs and banners for traffic signs, signs for City premises, indoor/outdoor displays and all City vehicles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Products all City traffic signage in compliance with state traffic sign requirements.
· Uses vinyl, plastic, fabric and metal materials to create City signs and banners.
· Utilizes various software applications for sign design and banners, including measuring and calculating letter and logo sizing.
· Prepares substrates for vinyl applications, including cutting, painting, laminating and cleaning the surfaces; cuts, weeds, tapes and applies cut vinyl graphics to substrates.
· Monitors the sign budget; performs inventory control; submits requests for material orders.
· Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
· Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge:
· City organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
· Software applications, including Traffic Cad, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photo Shop.
· Principles and practices of artistic layout design.
· Digital printer and vinyl plotter hardware and software applications.
· Texas Title 7 Transportation Codes.
· Business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications.
Skill in:
· Handling situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.
· Estimating time and materials for work assignments.
· Providing efficient customer service.
· Understanding and applying City policies and procedures.
· Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all levels within the City.
· Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent; AND five years’ experience in municipal signage operations; ORan equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
· Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed primarily in an indoor work environment. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Pay: $32,319.00 - $48,478.00 per year
