About the Position:
The City of Grand Junction is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual for the position of Controller to provide accounting, reporting, payroll, financial software administration, and financial services through strong internal controls to a broad community of internal and external customers and partners. This position reports directly to the Deputy Finance Director, and the individual chosen to fill this position will become an integral part of the organization serving in a key finance position responsible for all aspects of accounting and financial reporting. The Controller must possess highly technical accounting and financial reporting skills as well as advanced organizational skills to successfully meet the demands of the position. The Finance Department commits to the citizens of Grand Junction a financial structure that institutes the best practices of sound financial management. This commitment promotes better service, enhanced performance measures, maximum accountability, and improved business procedures to ensure the delivery of effective and efficient City services.

The City of Grand Junction Finance Department works to ensure financial stability through sound and transparent financial management to serve a healthy and thriving community. - Manage and direct all professional accounting functions to ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Manage and prepare the City's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR); coordinate the annual external audit and single audit.
- Maintain and manage all components of the financial software system and all relations with other departmental software solutions.
- Continually assess the internal control environment to ensure no weaknesses exist; suggest and implement financial policies, procedures, and controls as needed.
- Assist in the preparation of the City-Wide budget.
- Four (4) years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience including two (2) years of management and administrative responsibility.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a CPA certificate.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Colorado driver’s license.
