Job Title: Library Director
Reports To: Mayor, City of Gravette
Job Summary:
The Library Director plans, coordinates, administers and directs the operations of the library, including but not limited to recruiting, hiring, coaching and mentoring staff; collection development; information technologies; facility maintenance and care; and fiscal management and oversight, in conformity with the mission, vision and policies established by the Library Advisory Board and adopted by the City of Gravette.

Responsibilities:
· Plan, organize and direct the activities of the library and staff.
· Recruit qualified library staff, provide opportunities for career development through education and delegation, and supervise the staff with the goal of creating a harmonious team environment that provides excellent service to library patrons.
· Administer the volunteer program, including recruitment, training, scheduling, and evaluating, either directly or through appropriate delegation.
· Responsible for developing print and non-print collections, including selection, organization, maintenance, preservation, withdrawal, and disposal of materials, either directly or through appropriate delegation.
· Participate in the preparation of the annual budget for presentation to and approval by the City Council.
· Oversee day-to-day financial activity including transactions and deposits. Plan for and monitor expenditures in compliance with the library’s budget.
· Work with the Library Advisory Board on strategic plans to meet community needs, establish operating policies, plan for future growth of the library, and prepare a maintenance plan for the library.
· Build positive partnerships with external stakeholders including, but not limited to, officials and staff of the City of Gravette, the Friends of the Gravette Public Library, local businesses, and nonprofits.
· Participate in the planning, organization, and management of technical and automation services for the library.
· Direct a public relations program to promote and publicize the library's collections, services, and programs within the community.
· Maintain knowledge of new developments in the library profession, including technological advances, through professional development opportunities, including but not limited to participation in activities of professional organizations and networks and of the Arkansas State Library.
· Prepare regular narrative and statistical reports for the Library Advisory Board, the Mayor of the City of Gravette, and the City Council.
· Establish priorities as determined by need.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Review and evaluate the library's services and programs on an annual basis.
· Prepare grant requests to state and federal agencies and non-profit foundations, and administer grant funds upon award.
· Maintain inventory of department equipment, furniture, and supplies.
· Prepare specifications for purchase of equipment and supplies.
· Work with the Friends of the Library organization in promoting the library before the community.
· Attend conferences, workshops, and meetings and read professional literature to stay informed on issues related to library management and services.
· Serve on professional and community committees, as requested, to advance the library and the library profession.
· Perform other duties, as required.

Two years of study at an accredited college or university and three years of experience working in business administration, accounting, or a library, one of which must include working in a supervisory capacity.
Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from an accredited college or university plus five years of progressively responsible library administration experience including at least three years in a supervisory capacity OR an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting on the basis of one year for each year of education.
