Work Schedule: School Year: 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. and Teacher Workdays 20 hours per week; Summer Camp: up to 40 hours per week, not to exceed 1000 hours per calendar year.

Brief Description of Work:
We are currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Out of School Time Counselor at the Brown Recreation Center. The Out of School Time Counselor is responsible for overall day-to-day group programming, discipline, direct supervision, and management of children in the After-School and Summer Camp Programs. Must be able to relate to school-age children (ages 5-12), and conduct age-appropriate organized activities.
Responsibilities and duties will include:
- Act as a role model to the children by exemplifying the City of Greensboro’s Core Values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Stewardship)
- Supervise a group of approximately 12-15 children between the ages of 5-12
- Facilitate both formal and informal play activities
- Assists children with homework
- Assist in creating daily and weekly schedules to include craft, sports, wellness, games, music, field trips, etc.
- Provides emergency response as per training when necessary
- Collects data for daily reports and maintains records and reports
- Assists with set-up and breakdown of activities and cleaning of program area
- Maintains positive and appropriate relations with children, parents, staff, etc.
- Attends and participates in program activities, staff meetings, staff trainings, etc.
- Provides exceptional customer service
- Be enthusiastic and make the center a safe a fun place for the community
The selected applicant must possess great communication skills to ensure the highest level of customer service, have knowledge of safe work practices, ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and have the ability to be trained in RecTrac (recreational software). The physical requirements of the job include but are not limited to: walking, standing, sitting for extended times, jogging, running and jumping for the purpose of instructing/leading recreation programs, lifting up to 30lbs. and operating assigned equipment and vehicles as needed.
The Job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Valid Driver's License or reliable means of transportation
- Prior experience working with school-aged children
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (“OR” ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in education or a related field
- Prior experience with recreation management software
- Bilingual
