Top candidates, based upon a scored training and experience evaluation, will be invited to the Physical Test. These top candidates must take and pass the physical test on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
Appointed by the Mayor in consultation with the Administrative Assistant, the Service Technician, under the immediate supervision of a Department Manager or Supervisor is responsible for a variety of skilled and unskilled tasks in the delivery of City services and maintenance of City buildings, roadways, grounds, and equipment.
Has the proven ability in oral and written communications.
Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, civic leaders and the public in general.

Obey and promptly execute all orders of the Administrative Assistant.
The Service Technician shall have the following duties under his/her direct supervisor:
Operation and maintenance of City owned equipment and vehicles, repair streets, curbs, catch basins, broken sewer and water infrastructure, mowing, litter pick-up, leaf collection, snow and ice removal, dig ditches or trenches, rough and finish carpentry work, trim and/or cut trees and brush, minor concrete work, minor electrical work, some welding and other related activities associated with the Department of Public Service.
Maintains contact with City personnel/departments, the general public, and various government agencies/officials in order to obtain or disseminate information related to the essential position functions.
Maintains required licensures and certification, if any.
Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment; works in the vicinity of floor or wall openings, elevated platforms, and/or runways; ascends and/or descends ladders, stairs, or scaffolds; works on and around powered platforms and/or vehicle mounted platforms; is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas; exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, air contaminants, unclean or unsanitary conditions; works with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines (e.g., belts, reels, blades, pulleys, etc.); exposed to possible injury from explosions and/or falling from high places; has exposure to fire; has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; has exposure to shaking objects or surfaces; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 lbs. or less. Employee may be subject to irregular work hours and must be available 24/7 unless alternate arrangements have been approved by Supervisor, and exposed to vehicular traffic when working in the public right-of-way.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium to heavy work.

Skill in building painting; motor vehicle operation; use or operation of mowers, trimmers, tractors, jackhammer, medium duty equipment such as backhoes; loader, skid steer, snow plow, use of bench and/or hand tools; use of mechanics' tools and equipment.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, picture, or schedule form; deal with problems involving few variables within familiar context; add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers; complete routine forms; prepare accurate documentation; respond to routine inquiries from public and/or officials; communicate effectively; understand a variety of written and/or verbal communications; *maintain records according to established procedures; develop and maintain effective working relationships; use maintenance equipment; perform heavy manual labor; travel to and gain access to work site. Must possess or be able to obtain within six months of hire a valid Ohio Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or Class B with applicable endorsements and maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
