ONLY CITY OF HAMILTON POLICE SERGEANTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY.

To establish an eligibility list for the POLICE LIEUTENANT classification, a written competitive Civil Service examination will be held at 9:00 AM on August 26, 2023 at Hamilton Police Department Training Room, 331 S. Front Street.

AN ASSESSMENT CENTER TEST WILL BE CONDUCTED AT A LATER DATE. APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED VIA EMAIL OF THE SPCIFIC TIME AND DATE OF THE ASSESSMENT. The Written Exam score shall constitute 40% of the overall exam score. The  Assessment Center score shall constitute 60% of the overall exam score. 

This is supervisory and administrative work with the Police service. Responsibilities include the command of an assigned operating shift/or the supervision of major divisional activities.
 
Per FOP Supervisors' Unit Contract: "No person shall be eligible to take the examination unless he or she has served in the rank of Sergeant for twelve (12) months prior to the expiration of the previously existing eligibility list for the rank of Lieutenant in the rank."

The scope of the examination will involve a written measure that will relate to the duties of the Police Lieutenant class. The following source material will be used in the preparation of the examination:

Effective Police Supervision (Ninth Edition) by Larry S. Miller, Harry W More, Michael C. Braswell.

Seventy percent (70%) is the minimum passing grade for the written exam. Examinees must pass the written test in order to participate in the assessment center. The written test shall weigh forty percent (40%) and the assessment center shall weigh sixty percent (60%) of the total score. No credit for seniority will be added to an examinee's grade unless the applicant achieves at least the minimum passing grade on the written exam without counting such extra credit. No credit for efficiency shall be added to test grades.
