What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technical Inspector position at City of Hattieburg?
Nature of Work:
The Technical Inspector regulates compliance with all applicable codes and ordinances relative to construction, site work, renovation and remodeling activities taking place within the city limits of Hattiesburg for commercial and residential properties. Person in this position will be working very closely with the public and representing the city of Hattiesburg.
Examples of Work
- Review and analyze construction plans and documents for code compliance.
- Performs inspections of new construction for commercial and residential projects in all phases of construction and ensures compliance with approved plans and with applicable building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and accessibility codes.
- Addresses code violations with property owners, contractors and other parties involved.
- Completes inspection reports and records/logs all notes and any subsequent corrections needed utilizing computer-based software.
- Responds to inquiries from public and from contractors regarding questions about building codes.
- Other duties as assigned and as required for the proper function of the division of Land development and the City of Hattiesburg.
Desirable Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED, extensive experience and or education related to construction, building systems, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing systems and site work. Must have the ability to read and analyze construction plans and documents, survey plats and maps. Must possess effective computer skills. Must currently hold or be able to obtain required inspector certifications within required time frame.
Position requirements include the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to interact with the general public in a courteous and professional manner. Will need the ability to prioritize, organize and complete required duties timely and accurately. Candidate should be detail oriented, flexible and a team player.
Ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with the general public, contractors, plan designers and other employees.
Must be capable of safely performing physical actions necessary to conduct inspections at construction sites including inside attic or crawl spaces and at heights.
Must possess a valid Mississippi driver's license and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
